I have a Compaq Presario 5185 that has Win2000. Every time I shut down it prompts safe to turn off.
When I press the power button it seems to shut off. When pressed again to turn on it has the same prompt on the screen again. I have to actually kill the power to it to restart. What can I do to FIX?

Jump to PostPress and hold the power button. I bet it has an ATX power supply in it, and you're merely suspending it.
(I hate that part of the ATX power supply setup!)

Yes, hold the power button in for a bit. There will most likely be a 4 second delay, and you'll hear it switch off when the time comes.
