My T 6420 eMachine suddenly developed a problem with the mouse and keyboard not working, then it was hard to turn off, now it is completely dead. The Geek Squad said it is the mother board but I have no power, no lights no noises nothing. Before investing in new mother board could it be a power switch and/or power supply issue?

yes

trust me the geek squad is right, the mobo is gone, take that power supply and test in another comp, it will still work. i am telling you this from experience, i have 2 at home tha the mobo went kaput, those machines are the worst.

Im in the same boat, mine powers on but thats it.Not reading the keyboard and now it runs abit louder than normal. Trying to find out what i can throw in there so i can get it back online.
