Good first steps by — running an up‑to‑date second‑opinion scanner is the right move. The pattern shown in the original post (many randomly named executables in System32 plus multiple persistence entries and injected DLL activity) is typical of a rogue “fake AV” that installs additional persistence and sometimes a kernel rootkit. Those infections require layered cleanup: containment, targeted scanning, persistence‑removal, and verification.

Immediate containment and backup: isolate the machine from networks to stop lateral spread. Export personal documents (avoid copying executables or installers) to external media and scan that backup from a known‑clean system. Disable System Restore before attempting removals so infected restore points aren’t reused later, and make a full disk image if possible so recovery is safe.

Suggested cleanup sequence (order matters): update and run Malwarebytes in Safe Mode as a baseline; follow with a different on‑demand scanner for a second opinion. Run a dedicated rootkit detector (TDSSKiller/GMER or a vendor rescue environment) to find hidden kernel components. Use Sysinternals Autoruns to locate and disable suspicious Run/RunOnce/AppInit_DLLs entries (export Autoruns/registry before changing anything). Use Process Explorer to identify which processes lock infected files, terminate them, then remove files from Safe Mode or from a bootable rescue ISO. If files are stubborn or the system is unstable, run a reputable bootable AV rescue disk; if that still fails, reimage from backup.

Post‑cleanup hygiene: re‑enable System Restore, fully patch Windows and applications, install a reputable, updated AV, and change all account passwords. Rogue AV families commonly demand payment and block legit tools; avoid paying. A proper verification set after cleanup includes fresh Autoruns output and a new HijackThis-style trustable log so persistence vectors can be rechecked.

Hi scorch20 and welcome to daniweb. I note that you said

Running Malwarebytes as well

Please follow the directions given below and please NOTE REMOVE SELECTED instructions

Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBA-M) to your Desktop.

* DoubleClick mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install MBA-M.
* Be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
* If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
* Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
* When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
* Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
* When MBA-M finishes, Notepad will open with the log. Please save it where you can find it easily. The log can also be opened by going to Start > All Programs > Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware > Logs > log-date.txt.

REBOOT THE COMPUTER after you have run the program.
Then run a new HJT full system scan and save that log. Post back here with both logs and we can determine where to go from there.
