I installed Ubuntu the other day and I have been having some problems.

Upon installing Ubuntu, I rebooted and selected Ubuntu to boot. After about 10 seconds, all I get is a black screen with a mouse. I restarted again, same procedure, it loads perfectly fine.

Basically 50% of the time Ubuntu works, 50% of the time it doesn't.
Is there any fixes for this?

I heard that Ubuntu has compatibility errors with some ATI graphics cards. Could this have to do with the problem? I cannot even get a terminal to show up.

my graphics card: ATI Raedeon x1300 series
Computer: Dell dimension 3000 series
Processor: Pentium 4 (2.8ghz)
Ram: 1gb

Thanks
Zak

Take a look here:

the indication is that it should work.

You can probably reach the terminal by pressing Ctrl+Alt+T.
If I where you I would try to update and upgrade the system.

I do not know if you are noob or leet so I will give you the commands.
First you do a <sudo apt-get update>
and then a <sudo apt-get dist-upgrade>

Try to download the necessary driver by going to System > Administration > Additional driver. It will check for any hardware driver and download. Hope this help.
