Hi, I am new to this site and am having trouble with my MAC. A while ago my internal modem got burned in a thunderstorm. I bought an external modem (best data USB)and tried to set it up. My ISP is AOL. I was able to connect to the AOL website and can get my email, but I am unable to connect to the web. I have tried to reset preferences to default, but to no avail. As soon as I try to connect to a sight the program shuts down my internet connection. Does anyone out there know where I am going wrong?

Hello,
I wish I could help here, but have found AOL to be a virus in itself. You are making a connection to AOL, and are able to get to email, so that means the modem is working, along with your phone line. I would be calling AOL's support line, or better yet, find a different ISP to call in your area and get away from them guys.
