I can not create a disk image in disk utility. I receive the massage "Unable to create ___.dmg resource busy. It seems that I can not create the image because the volume or HD is in uses. What are my options.

Help Please

First of all, close all applications except Disk Utility. To be sure, press Apple-Option-Escape, which will bring up a list of all applications open. You can manually quit any applications that are still open using this dialog box. When you're done, click the close button.

Try again and see if it works. (It should)
