Thread context: reports graphics artifacts in one level and system freezes; suggested driver/hardware causes. Below are targeted, practical steps that focus on the game and OS side (not repeating basic driver advice already mentioned) and that work for older PC ports of Assassin's Creed.

  • Install the official PC game patch for the original release (check Ubisoft support). Many level-specific visual bugs were fixed by early patches; applying the latest compatible patch is a low-risk first step.

  • Run the game in a different display mode and lower feature set. Toggle fullscreen/windowed with Alt+Enter, drop resolution, and set all post-processing/shader options (HDR/bloom/shadows/AA) to the lowest or OFF. If the in-game menu is inaccessible, try launching the game with compatibility settings (Windows XP compatibility + Run as administrator).

  • If the launcher or updater fails, perform a clean game install: uninstall, remove leftover game folders in the user Documents and Program Files locations, then reinstall. For Steam copies, use "Verify integrity of game files" from Properties -> Local Files.

  • Collect diagnostic data for frozen/stability problems: run dxdiag and save all information, and check Windows Event Viewer (System and Application logs) for entries at the crash time. Screenshots or short phone video of the artifact are useful evidence when freezes prevent normal capture.

  • Remove software that injects into DirectX (overlays, FPS counters, recorders) and set any GPU/CPU back to stock clocks. If the artifact only appears in one map and persists after patching and clean installs, corrupted game assets or failing video memory are likely causes; a test on another machine or with another GPU build will help isolate that.

These steps complement the driver/hardware points already raised by and the system details from while focusing on fixes that often resolve level-specific visual glitches in older PC ports.

My game also is crashing at random times now and it crashes the whole pc with it(PC freezes)

Generally yellow stripes means a driver bug. get the latest drivers for your card. Alternatively it could mean an oveerheating GPU or not enough power.

Do you know a good driver update program that is free?

just download the drivers from the manufacturers website (ati or nvidia depending on your card) - they are frelly downloadable from there

what card you got?

i have the ATI Radeon X1300/X1550 Series card and i tried to update it but it failed or something it was wierd anyways :0

Thats not a very powerful card, not a gaming card at all, so its probably just finding it hard to play Assasins Creed.
