Short answer: there is no single universal keystroke — the OEM and model determine the preboot shortcut and the exact restore method. was right to ask for the make/model, and correctly noted that many systems include a preboot recovery shortcut. Two common recovery routes are an OEM recovery partition/media or a reinstall from the Windows XP CD; the steps below explain how to find which applies and how to prepare.
msinfo32 in Windows and note the System Model and Manufacturer.diskmgmt.msc and look for a small hidden partition labeled Recovery or OEM. If present, consult the vendor support page for that model to learn the correct preboot key.Important cautions: factory restore irreversibly deletes user data, so verify backups before proceeding. Windows XP is no longer supported; restored systems should be upgraded or isolated from the internet. For model-specific recovery instructions, see the manufacturers’ support pages: Dell Support, HP Support, .
