hi i've been wanting to reformat my pc for a while and i've looked on the net fior a few days now and i can't find what i need, i dont have a windows cd or any other cd's with my pc, i've reformatted to factory default before by pressing one of the f keys and other stuff at the pre boot menu but i can't remember how to do it, its a dimension 3100c if someone could tell me what to do i would be so greatful. thanks in advance.

Before you restore:

  • Verify backups by opening several files and exporting mail/favorites (Outlook .pst or equivalent).
  • Copy or note any program serials and the Windows product key or COA sticker on the case.
  • If possible, download the network and chipset drivers for the model and save them to a USB stick so you can get online after the restore.
  • Disconnect the external backup drive and other nonessential USB devices during the restore to reduce the small risk of accidental overwrite.

After the restore:

  • Run Windows Update repeatedly until there are no more important updates (XP needs Service Pack updates applied in sequence).
  • Install the saved drivers from Dell and check Device Manager for unknown devices.

  • Create recovery media or a full disk image of the clean system so reinstalling later is faster.

when u start the computer press and release ctrl+f11 at the same time at the dell splash screen then follow instructions :)
