I have a similar problem to Jahan's.

Sometimes my Internet Explorer will not connect. I get the error "Page
cannot be displayed". This might last for a few days, then all of a sudden
it comes back to life and connects.

I am running XP Professional version 2002, Service Pack 1 and IE version
6.0.2800.1106
I have a 1.8 ghz Pentium 4 pc with 512mb ram
I am using Norton Internet Security Professional and check for updates
weekly.
I am on a broadband network using a cable modem.
I know the connection is ok because when I am prompted by Microsoft to
download the latest update, they in fact do download and install.
My broadband service provider assures that my cable modem is functioning
properly.

Any advice you can give me will be appreciated. Obviously I can't depend on IE
to be there when I need it.

I sometimes get a similar problem. My advice is that you should go to
start>programs>control pannel>network and intenet connections>networks>connections>LAN>

then click on useproxy server and automatically detect settings and try launching the explorer once more.Try interchanging accasionally and you may find yourself through

Can you help me because I have the same prob and I am desperate to resolve it.
Thanks

Do you have problems with only Internet Eplorer connecting to the internet or other programs as well.. be nice to know if its just your connections in general or the program itself (or a 3rd party program causing the troubles)

I'm having the same problem with IE its saying the page cannot be displayed. Someone told me to use hijackthis.exe and display the loglist, so here it is.

If you have a router, check that out. Because I have always had the same problem and if you reboot your router it should work perfectly. I think the problem is that if you have too many ports open on your router, it overloads. Mine is a NetGear RP114. So, try restarting your router if you have one, and lessen the ports that are open.

I'm having the same problem with IE its saying the page cannot be displayed.

The follwing are hijackers and troublemakers: New.net, jbeakuoo.exe, searchxl.com, and mysearchnow.com
You need to use Hijack This to remove those. Go to their forum and post this list for further help.

Thanks for the advice Monte but the router isn't the problem since I have two computers and the one in my room is working fine so it couldn't be the router.

I got the problem fixed, I deleted the hijackers and troublemakers like Tallcool said and when i rebooted my computer IE started working again.

Thanks guys for your help, I appreciate it.

Good to hear it was resolved. :)

I could have listed everything you needed to fix/delete from the hijackthis log........but there doesn't seem any point now.

I hope you uninstalled Newdotnet (newnet domains) from the control panel add/remove programs or you could lose your internet connection in the near future.

Hello,

I found this thread hoping it would help me solve all my problems but I tried doing what others mentioned to do here and it hasn't worked for me. I am running windows xp professional with mcaffee antivirus software, I can use windows messenger and access the windows update website along with a one school website), other than that I cannot access any website pages using either ie6 or mozilla firefox. Both my laptop connected wirelessly through my router and my voip phone work but my desktop (the one discussed above) won't work. I tried hijack this software and deleted any suspicious software but I am still having a problem. I have also tried running scanning software such as registry repair pro, spybot S&D, and adaware se personal software but none of them reported any problems. I tried turning off my firewall and doing a system restore but nothing has been working. Can anyone suggest what to try next?

Thanks

Here is my most recent Hijack this log incase it helps

Thanks
