Couldn't execite "attrib" command in Command Prompt.

hello everybody..,When i open cmd,other commands like cd dir ,ipconfig/all etc which i sometimes use them.But I can't have response of attrib command.When i type attrib *.* it says like:(which i copy and paste below)

D:\>cd downloads

D:\downloads>attrib *.*
'attrib' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

I made some important files as SHR files long time aga, Now I have to change them but I couldn't view/edit them,Please help me..!!

hi,is the D:\ drive a harddrive or a cdrom drive ,If the files are burnt to a cd you will not be able to edit the files unless the cd used was a cd-rw [rewritable disk ] you will need to copy file to your harddrive ,me thinks !!

I'm not so foolish to do so. I've shown you just an example. I've tried it for all the drives but it response as if i have 5 or 6 CD-ROMs namely C:\ ,D:\, E:\, F:\ etc.......
