I re-formatted my computer today and upgraded from Windows XP 32-Bit to Windows 7 64-Bit. Using Firefox as my default internet application I am unable to connect to various different websites, mainly ones that I need to access to download vital software. This problem is not new to me as I tried to install Windows Vista 32-Bit just less than a year ago and I experienced the same problems. I am now thinking it has something to do with my router configurations and the Windows 7 OS. I would greatly appreciate help from the community as this will be the second time i've dropped over $300 on a OS that I can't return and can't manage to function properly.

It sounds more like a home networking issue can you describe your home network cable modem dsl modem router etc and model numbers

I am on a wireless network using a Wireless D-Link Adapter model #DWL-G122. A Linksys Wireless-B Broadband Router model #BEFW11S4. And a Motorola SURFboard Cable Modem model #SB5100. The modem and router are both in my basement and I am on the top floor connected wirelessly through the adapter.

I am getting rather desprate for a fix to my problem as I have work that needs completion and vital software that I still cannot download. Could someone please help me with my problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,
I have no idea if it will work but as you can use your setup to access some sites but not others, try a different browser and see if it helps. Chrome, IE8, Opera etc.. There could be some hick up with your current browser.

I've tried a few different browsers with no success. I really think it has something to do with the Windows 7 OS as this problem only happened when I reformatted to Windows 7. I've reformatted before with no problems but when I use Windows 7 or Windows Vista I get the exact same problem.

hi,my opinion ,it make absolutely no sense that you can connect to some sites and not others ,can you post a link to the site with the software you need to download .it maybe a 64 bit problem ???

I don't think it is a 64-bit problem because I tried using Windows Vista 32-bit and got the exact same problem. This only happens when I try using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, regardless of the bit. But here is a list of a few sites that I can or cannot access.
Can:

Cannot:

These are just a few sites that I cannot access, I have attachted a screen shot to the error that I get when I try to access these.

The problem might be your isp -- I am running 64-bit Win7 and was able to connect to those sites (didn't try them all)

In a command prompt try this: tracert www.daniweb.com or any other site you want.

I used command prompt to trace the websites and this is what I got:
- (Attached picture below)

did you try it on the sites you can not access ?

You can go to Tools>Option> Security and see. Or if you have the time, try use Linux and see whether you get the same result.

there are errors in at least one of the sites i tried so far like this one .
http://www.download.cnet.com/
should be
http://download.cnet.com

and the google mail one should be .
http://www.google.com/mail
the rest of them worked for me ,im using firefox and win7u

might i suggest going to tools in internet explorer and go to internet options ,advanced and hit reset down bottom to reset inter explorer options

All these suggestions are great but, one that is left out is if you use peerblocker or any other similiar software disable it as it will block certain sites based on your user preferences.
