I have a Dell Inspiron laptop 1505 that I installed Windows 7 on. It previously contained Windows XP. The CD/DVD drive doen't work. When I put a disk in it lights up and spins once or twice and nothing else.I have tried everything and so far no luck. There is no CD/DVD device or whatever listed in the bios.
I would appreciate any help that I can get.

does it show anything in device manager for the drive .

No it doesn't.

Then Probably the CD/DVD drive is not working.. How many years you have been using it ?
If it is more than 3 years (in general for drive to degrade) then its time to buy new one

try physically disconnecting and removing the drive from the computer completely, then reconnect/install the drive and see if that helps. do all this with the power off of course.
