Does anybody know why my system restore is "unable to create a restore point" (or do anything for that matter) ?

Jump to PostCheck your application and system logs and see if any more information was entered on the failure. It's in Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Event Viewer.

Also make sure you have enough space to add restore points and that it is actually "activated". Right click my computer, go to "prooperties, go to "system Restore", go to your restor tab now. Make sure you see a checkmark that verifies it's activated. Set your restore % at at least 7%. I lower mine from default (Default is way too high) but keep it at 5-7%, and have found that it's more than enough.
