I recently replaced my old and dead 2Wire 1000s DSL Modem/Gateway with a D-Link 2320B DSL modem. I have the 2Wire PC Port that I bought when we got the 2Wire Modem to get on the network using the telephone wiring. I want to use it on a second computer. It worked with the 2Wire Modem but I can't get it to work with the D-Link. Is it because the modem needs to have HomePNA support or something? I will eventually get a wireless router but not until maybe in a couple of months and wanted to use this for now.

Another question, is there a difference in using onboard Ethernet as opposed to a PCI NIC.

thanks,
jc

1. You got it, the D-Link doesn't support HPNA and the 2-wire does.

2. for all intents and purposes no. there is not a difference b/t using on-board and PCI NICs
