One of my favorites long ago was BeOS. In stock form it came with a decent IDE and C compiler.
Linux did too but the ecosystem was and continues to be fragmented.

I remember BeOS, although I never used it. In college we used Solaris on Sun Microsystems workstations. I'll be honest, though. Wasn't a fan. At home I was using both Windows 2000 and RedHat 5.2 (Apollo) at the time, and then eventually 7.x.

I have used (what I can remember): C64, AmigaOS, Microbee, OS/X Warp, AppleDOS, FreeDOS, MSDOS, Windows 3 to XP, Linux (various), Solaris, FreeBSD/NetBSD and SCO Unix. My favourite is definitely AmigaOS followed closely by Linux with a nostalgia towards Microbee. Most were only hobby use, however Solaris, Linux and SCO Unix were professional use.

Amiga/C64 might be coming back!

Fedora Linux for me with Cinnamon desktop, have been using it as my primary OS for many years now. I'm running a couple of Windows machines in VirtualBox, for specific windows related jobs.

I'm always on the oldest supported version, because VirtualBox is not always ready for the latest versions on it's release.

There is no chance, that I'll ever return to Windows as my main OS again.

I can't get grip of the user interface of Mac, apart from that it seems to be a great OS. One of the great things with Linux is that you can choose the user interface that suits you, and still have the same OS underneath. Also the Apple world is to locked in for my taste.
