I don't see why not. You are simply adding a connection object and it should work no matter what database brand or version you are using.

Hey everyone,
I am not sure of good COSC doctoral programs on the east coast (maybe va tech offers it?). I am also wondering how a PH.D. will help me in the long run. I would love to work for a huge enterprise as the head network administrator, but I do not want to cross the line of being over qualified. That being said, I would like to fall back on teaching at a university during retirement.

most people that I have seen who go straight for their doctorate in computer science usually end up teaching right-after with not a whole lot of real world experience.
What kind of work do you want to do? Do you just want to be a programmer, project manager initially? If so, a bachelors is all you really need for that. Eventually if you want to teach at a university you will need your PHD (with some exceptions of course), but I don't see that as a necessary thing for a while.
When I graduated, I had alot of friends who just stayed in the program to work on their masters. This wasn't for me as I wanted to get out and actually get some real-world experience. I've been thinking alot lately of going for my masters, but it wouldn't be for computer science this time. I'd like an MBA. For what I want to do in my career, a BS in comp sci mixed with an MBA is perfect. …
Welcome, nice intro there. *leaving to read your blog now.
Just a quick note to say Hi to everyone!
Hi Eddy. What brings you here?
Hi to all!
I would like to ask you which coding convention do you use?
Regards,
do you mean naming conventions? I follow Microsoft's coding standards...
You could just host your blog yourself for very little money. As little as $40 per month or maybe even less. With that you could add your own website infront of the blog as well.
More like as little as $5-10 for a decent host for a personal site.
I don't know of an hosted blogs taht offer that (like blogger, typepad)
but if you use something like wordpress you can configure it to be like that, yes.
What version of the framework are you using? You would need to post some code or some links so we can look at it.
What version are you using? its not supported in 2005 but it is in earlier versions.
do you get dvd support out of the box or do you need to buy the remote and stuff like you had to with the original xbox.
It is supported out of the box. You don't need to buyy a remote as you can use the wireless controller as one, although they do sell them if you want one.
Can you show us some code please?
what are your interests? is this a personal project? think of a tool that you could use for yourself and create it.. even if it already exists.
I doubt this would be a dell error, sounds more like an OS error. What did dell say after you called them?
I got a 360 last year for xmas and i primarily use it as a dvd player and i do enjoy plaing video games. I still play my ps2 more than the 360. I did get a wii this year for xmas and it is as cool as everyone says. The main game I play right now is zelda which is just unbelievable. I've always been a Nintendo girl though and have played zelda since I was a kid.
UML is something that I am pretty loyall too in the design process. What do you like so much about the other methods?
you need to check out the starter kits from asp.net. source code inlcuded.
Well, what do you like to do? What are your hobbies? Do you have any interests that you could create a site about? It would be alot easier and more enjoyable for you if you chose a topic you enjoyed.
Also, do you have any requirements? Sureley you are required to do more than just create a website in asp.net.
How can i know when a new feed is updated in the RSS file?
So your rss file is a flat file db? have you thought of storing these values in a db? You could always have a trigger or a SP that sent you an email alert.
What database are you using and also what language are you programming in?
You really need to give us more info than this as I don't think anyone is in the business of doing homework for you. Tell us more about the firm and tell us what YOU think and we can help you and make recommendations based on yor designs.
What command are you using? I use: mysql -u USER -p DBNAME < dump.sql
I would recommend mysql over access anyday, but i would like to second JRM's recommendation of postgreSQL. Here is a pretty good comparison of the two:
http://www-css.fnal.gov/dsg/external/freeware/pgsql-vs-mysql.html
What i like about postgres is it has better support for triggers and PL/sQL.
You can't use one connection string; you need two and you will have to call te query twice. is there a reason you are storing the same info on two servers?
I believe mysql can support joining two tables from two databases, but im not sure if they are on different servers.
Where and when exactly are you updating the matchdata? Why not update the team standings then? then our page need only pull from the table.
Yes, anything is possible though. I'm assuming you have other tables in your db? If so, you could also get the stats without having the teamstanding table if you use your matchdata table in conjunction with a teams and division table.
I keep noticing StumbleUpon as a referer to our blog entries but hadn't heard of it before then. What is it exactly? Like a mini-Digg?
Kind of. The reason I joined is because i had an incoming link to my site from them so I wanted to check it out. There are two parts to stumble upon as I see it. The first part is people basically where people give a thumbs up or thumbs down to websites they view. They have a toolbar for FF and IE that makes it really easy to do. Also in this toolbar is a button called stumble. When you click this button it takes you to a random web page that people have voted for within categories that you specify. It is a great way to find sites you never would have found. i think this is the allure to it.
The next part is more social networking, kind of mySpace-esque. You get friends and fans (people who like the sites you recommend) and you can send and receive PMs. You get more "fans" by voting for more sites.
I only joined about a week ago and yesterday, for example, it sent almost 50 hits to my personal blog all coming from my StumbleUpon Profile.
Something you should think about doing is joining other social networking sites to promote your own as this is the type of audience you are after. Give StumbleUpon.com a shot.
since you asked... I have a BS in computer Science, not engineering. Don't think that just because you finish a degree in computer engineering there will be tons of high-paying jobs just waiting for you. This isn't the year 2000 anymore.
You need to go with your gut and study something that interests you. You cant choose a field of study for your family, or for money, etc, otherwise down the line you will feel that you made a mistake.
Finding a job is all relative on the needs of the market and your location.
asp.net can also be run on linux just as php can be run on windows so don't let the server you have or use dictate what you learn.
Designing and programming are two VERY different things and while yes, you can pursue them both simultaneously, you will most likely find that you are better at one than the other.
The main difference between vb.net and c# is just syntax really so it shouldn't be much of a leap between the two. I would recommend you download some starter kits from www.asp.net and review some of the tutorials there.
Why not just buy a study book or check one out of a library. If you don't want to buy one you can alwas leaf through one at a Borders as you drink coffee.
CAUTION.. I tend to ramble and make thousands of typos.
Now, where to start, where to start...
I am Sara and I am a 30-yo chick and mom of two boys. I just moved from the states to Belgium a month ago so I've been pretty busy lately and still trying to establish an Internet connection.
I am a programmer (C# and php primarily but can also handle vb.net, perl, and some java) and entrepreneur... OH and I like to blog I'm afraid. I think I have 5 right now, but I won't bore you with them. My personal blog is at http://www.ilovecode.com if you want to learn more about me.
I may know some of you from other forums, but this looks like a good bunch. Happy to be here. Since im on a 14k connection, I will stop at that. Hope to help out around here as well as learn from the rest of you.
