how about the JFrame method:
setMinimizable(false);
how about the JFrame method:
setMinimizable(false);
I would suggest adding one to the end of the generated number or else you wont ever reach 200.
Thanks a lot, that really cleared things up for me. I just didn't expect that kind of information to be given out. I thought a credit card would be sufficent.
I use the google german version, and normally it will say this at the side of a link that is not in german: [ Diese Seite übersetzen ] that means translate this site. I don't have the english version, but I'm guessing if you reach a site that's not in english it will give you the option of translating that site. But as Mr. Wenting said, those translations are VERY poor. If you've ever used a translation program(I think babelfish is one) then you know what he's talking about.
I'm trying to create a calculator using the gridbag layout, but I can't even get started. This layout managers keeps starting stuff in the direct center of the frame and wont put anything anywhere else. I tried this:
c.anchor = GridBagConstraints.SOUTH;
I just can't seem to get this thing working. Could you guys help me out. I hate to ask for some code, but it would really be helpful in this situation.
You need to come up with a formula for calculating the number of spaces to use at the beginning. There is an alternative way by using char arrays, but that is very difficult.
I was wondering if someone could point me to some good online tutorials and exercises. I most importantly would like a site with some exercises to help me learn further. I have a book called "JavaScript in 24 hours" and I have to admit, this book is terrible. It teaches you the VERY VERY basics of the language.
Any help/comments/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
Hey, could you guys that use ebay take a look at this thread?
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread27870.html
I hate to do this in someone elses thread, but I can't get any replies. I just want to know a few things about signing up.
Perhaps you should review your posts...
Perhaps you should review the threads in which my conflicting posts are made. It's like I said, I don't make conflicting posts unless it's a conflicting thread. If you can find a thread that disproves what I have said, please do. Otherwise I'm getting tired of argueing in this thread because I did nothing.
You have an older version that's why.
try this;
public static void main(final String[] args)
{
JFrame frame = new JFrame("Drawing");
frame.getContentPane().setLayout(new FlowLayout());
frame.setSize(300,300);
Drawing drawing = new Drawing();
Drawing drawing1 = new Drawing();
frame.getContentPane().add(drawing);
frame..getContentPane().add(drawing1);
frame.setVisible(true);
frame.repaint();
}
How about a project that will randomly choose ideas for people like you. I find it amazing you're in college and can't think of anything.
I don't think I've meet any movie stars before. I have meet plenty of big sports stars though. I once meet an ex Oakland Raider at my high school training his son. He showed me his super bowl rings, in which he had about 3, I think.(Didn't let me hold them)
Excellent! That really helped a lot because that was my next venture! Thanks.
Thanks for the replies. I've tried proping it up with books to help the air flow, but that didn't help at all. It doesn't matter where I place the compter, on my lap, or on a table, it still does it. It's really bad. The lag will happen for about 10 mintues then it will be normal again for about 15 and go back to the lag. It's normally VERY hot around the RAM compartment.
My computer is a Dell Inspiron 600m 512mb RAM
If a cooler is the best way to go, then is there a specific brand or a specific model you guys recommend?
Thanks guys.
Process p = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(cmdline);
You can get an inputstream from that and read it if that's what your heading towards.
If you want to get each item seperate, you will need to use a StringTokenizer.
While looping, you could take the read line and tokenize it:
ArrayList first = new ArrayList();
ArrayList second = new ArrayList();
ArrayList third = new ArrayList();
ArrayList fourth = new ArrayList();
int count = 1;
while (br.readLine() != null)
{
StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(br.readLine());
while (st.hasMoreTokens())
{
if (count == 1)
{
first.add(st.nextToken());
}
else if (count == 2)
{
second.add(st.nextToken();
}
}
}
You get the drift.
I was talking about using software. I wanted to program every from the shopping cart to the html pages and all of that kind of stuff. I thought about having message boards and a chat room, but not sure about that. I just don't know if it's worth doing all of that(because it would take forever to program all of it) or should I just stick with software?
I'm sorry if it upsets some people, but the Lounge section is NOT some exclusive 'club' where only people holding particular views may participate.
How contridicting. You just were talking about freedom of expression and how he had the right to post what he did, but now you've implicitly said he should not have done it(that was obvious from the start but you couldn't see that)
The example you've cited above ( a comment made by myself for the benefit of others reading this) was a question posed to someone who posted a very patronising comment which was denigrating to women, obviously
Hmm, as this topic is not denigrating to the US and it's government. I guess that makes the people who name called in the right, or a better way of putting it is the comment you made you find fit because YOU made it. I thought that was one of the rudest comments I've seen in here myself. Actually, his comment was very factual and is easily proven correct in this society. I didn't see any denigration in it myself, but again, the only thing that matters is what you think, no one else.
Surely if it is understood that a comment is offensive then the comment should not be made!
Don't tell other people this unless you are willing to do the same. Remember that just because you're a moderator and you say something doesn't mean it's not an offensive comment.
Excessive and/or gratuitous use …
Is there some advantage of programming and doing everything on your website yourself? I wanted to at first, and the deeper I got the more I realized how long it would take. I know tools are out there that can do about everything for you, but I wanted to do everything myself and can't see how that's possible. Anyone got any suggetions or comments about this? Were you in a similar situation?
People who post here should not have to contend with being called 'bozo' or 'idiot' or anything of the ilk.
What about being asked " Why the f*** did you open your mog?"
You know, that would really bother me if it was said to me, even over being called a bozo or idiot(which wouldn't bother me).
So, I want to ask: If this guy didn't mean anything by what he was doing, then why the f*** did he open his mouth?
Is that the one that acts really goofy in corky rimono?
First of all, if this is not the right place please move.
My computer overheats whenever I do something processor intensive. I was wondering if a notebook cooler actually works, and which one to get.
Where in my post is it more unacceptable than other peoples? I know you hate me but at least treat me fair. You complain all the time about my posts but take a look at other peoples for once. I was reading the post about girl trouble and could not believe how you took one persons post to be bad(which in no way was it) and then someone turned around with a comment that I would have took much more worse but you didn't even say anything. I think bad language is worse than name calling, and I've seen you say things such as: " why the f*** did you open your mog"... What kind of hypocrite are you?
Are you arguing that people should not have the freedom to express opinion?
Yes cat, that is exactly what I'm doing. :?: :?: :?: :?: :?: What are you thinking dude?
Take a look at his topic title and see if he didn't mean anything by his post other than to present information. It seems YOU are the one limiting expression of opinion. I'm just expressing my opinion on his purpose and information. Everytime we have a debatable topic you're always the one telling me I can't say this, you shouldn't say that, that was uncalled for. If someone should complain about expressing an opinion it's against YOU.
I still don't think you undestand at all. When someone posts a topic like that, they should be well ready to take "heat" and quit frankly, if this guy was serious about getting his point across he would be right back in here in this discussion.
Take this for example, what if someone started a thread about what they thought we should do in the war. they would tell people the government is doing a terrible job because they believe we should just "blow" these terrorist countries off the map. Now do you think he/she would piss people off with what he/she posted? I gurantee that you would have anit war people yelling their head off, but it's their opinion and I gurantee that you would not complain about what would be said because you seem to support your …
Hmm, I guess so. I've never heard it called that though.
Do you honestly not realise that your own rigid views can also be seen as 'one sided propaganda garbage'? Different strokes for different folks, and people have conflicting views. Perhaps some people need to realise and accept that.
Mine are not one sided. I've watched news specials that show everything bad and news specials that show everything good. I've researched the internet, but that doesn't matter. I never got into any big statistical information like he did. When I post a hundred links and a bunch of clearly one sided information, then you can say my views are one sided garbage. But none of that was propanganda, and if you think so, grab a dictionary. Remember that I did not post a thread containing my views as did he and never have I, so if you say that what I posted was propanganda, then you obviously don't know what your talking about.
Do you not think what you just posted was abusive and questioning? I don't think so but it wasn't much different than what I said.
And I do not disagree with many of the statistics he posted, I disagree with(not just because it's my so called views) his purpose. I think his post was abusive in a way, but if don't want to think that then that's your opinion, but the more you post the more I can see you don't understand. Maybe you can call it annoyance, but I wish people would shut their mouth …
Those really aren't erros, those are warnings. You don't even have to worry about them.
What it is, the new version is wanting you to use the new features as opposed to old. Basicly in this case it's wanting you to use generics, but I wouldn't worry about it. You'll see when you get deeper into application that you might get 10-13 warnings, but you can just ignore those. If you wanted to fix that you would have visit type safety, but I wouldn't worry about 1.5 features unless you're well versed in normal 1.4 java.
Anyways, glad you got it fixed, and glad I could help.
prawn?? Do I need to get out more?
It would be really cool if this was real time so that you could see cars moving and people walking around, but I know that would be dangerous on a few parts and hard without a super connection.
Cat no one is calling you stupid for saying the war was not based upon terrorist. I agree with you, BUT no matter what the reason it had to be done. I hear people complain about: "well, these other countries do this and that, why aren't we there?".. The US will do what it can and knows it's limitations. If we help one country(iraq) then that's one country we made a difference to. To sit back and watch what was going on is JUST AS BAD as what saddam was doing.
Someone who took the time to write all that junk has posted it in more than one forum and will expect comments like this, and may not even look back at the comments after they post. I don't understand why this person posted this in a tech forum????? Would it not make more sense to post it in a government/war debate forum?
Anyways, you're talking about the abuse will get accounts suspended, but I take great offence to the one sided propaganda garbage that he posted. Name calling means nothing to me, but something like this just down right pisses me off, and my views should be allowed as anyones in a topic like this. Maybe you don't understand because you don't like in the US, but I just get so pissed when I see topics complianing about the war, or even our president because they don't even have the facts right or all of the facts.
…To server_crash, you will understand the first question if you try to run the program with some trial input. About the second question, I dont think your answer is helpful at all.
I don't have time to run everyone's code. If you do, that's great. About your second comment, I just now looked at the code and saw that he's using the command line to run this.d
Xlint is one of java 1.5's new features. I added an array list so that's why it's complaining. You can recompile like this:
javac Average.java -Xlint
then it will list a bunch of warnings and such. I did test the code, and it worked for me. If it doesn't work for you, check the java console and let me know what it's saying.
I'm new to the javascript and html thing. I really don't think it's much fun I'm trying to find use for it. It's hard going from java to something like that :sad:
I believe I will try the Spring Framework. Probably be a while before I get around to it, as I've got a billion books to read.
Thanks guys.
I would like to know if there are any ebay users in here. I tried to sign up last night and could not believe the information they wanted just for you to sell something. I mean, I thought a credit card number would suit them just fine, but no they wanted a routing number to a bank and checking account stuff. Did you have to go through that? I don't remember any ever telling me you had to give out so much information for that. Am I doing something wrong?
That's a great idea. Do you think java servlets or jsp would be the tool for the job if this really isn't for javascript? I know it would be a lot of server side stuff, right?
I think what your wanting is an arraylist..
Try this out and see what you think...I'm pretty sure it works but haven't tested it:
import javax.swing.*;
import java.awt.*;
import java.awt.event.*;
import java.util.*;
public class Average extends JApplet implements ActionListener
{
Container con = getContentPane();
JLabel displayAverage = new JLabel(); // displays the calculated average price of the numbers entered
JButton enterPrice = new JButton("Enter Price"); // enters the prices entered by the user into memory
JButton calculateAverage = new JButton("Average"); // calculates the average of the prices entered
JTextField userPrice = new JTextField(10); // allows user to enter prices
ArrayList pricesArray = new ArrayList();
int count = 0;
public void init()
{
con.add(calculateAverage);
con.add(enterPrice);
con.add(userPrice);
con.add(displayAverage);
con.setLayout(new FlowLayout(FlowLayout.CENTER));
userPrice.requestFocus();
enterPrice.addActionListener(this);
calculateAverage.addActionListener(this);
}
public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
{
Object source = e.getSource();
if(source == enterPrice)
{
pricesArray.add(userPrice.getText());
userPrice.setText("");
count++;
}
if(source == calculateAverage)
{
double sum = 0;
double average;
for(int i=0; i<pricesArray.size();i++)
{
double value = Double.parseDouble(((String)pricesArray.get(i)));
sum = value + sum;
}
average=sum/count;
String str = Double.toString(average);
displayAverage.setText("The Average Price Is: $" + str);
count=0;
}
}
}
I don't understand you people about the number of casaulties in this war. If you think it's so high, then grab a book and or goto one of your one sided websites and look at the numbers from the past...Compared to the past this is one of the most succesful wars of all time, that is of course based upon number of deaths...That's what you've implied matters most.
I'm sorry to hear you say that you lost a leg, if that is infact true. I personally don't believe you. I think your the same idiot that came in here advertising terrorist propaganda. I don't think a real soldier would be complaining and "downing" america in a time like this. If you were really over there and saw what saddam was doing then you wouldn't be opening your mouth.
You need to go live in another country. When that country is in political crisis, suffereing from natural disaster, or in financial trouble, do you know who is willing to jump in and help when no one else will? Yeah, that's right America.
I hate you dummies that find all the bad things happening which don't outway the good, but will never let the good be known. And who is concealing this information from us? Google can turn that crap up in milliseconds, and I can flip to any news channel and find the same stuff(you know because they are interested in showing all the bad as …
for(int i=0; i<pricesArray.length-1;i++)
{
double value = Double.valueOf(pricesArray[i]).doubleValue();
sum = value + sum;
}
Your for loop is missing one of the elements.
You can change it to this:
for(int i=0; i<pricesArray.length;i++)
Note: you don't have to worry about indexing out of bounds because it never hits 5, it stays less than five
Or you could do this:
for(int i=0; i<=pricesArray.length-1;i++)
Note: the change is the = sign.
Should I use simpler technologies like javascript to do this?
Is there advantages of using cgi type scripts like servlets and jsp as opposed to simple validation with something like javascript?
Is there a way to validate an email by checking it's existence?
Ask snoopdog.
This is your problem, you only have one instance of a scrollbar. You'll need to have 3 of them, and fix the handleevent so that it will check to see which one was fired.
I can fix your applet for you if you like. I'll change it to swing and fix the alignment, and use statements that will be compliant will all browsers. I'm almost positve that this is what's happening, but it could turn out it's not.
Where you add all those components, try this:
getContentPane.add(component);
instead of:
add();
That should make it more compliant, check that with the other computers.
By the way, if you want a better aligned applet you can use the setBounds() method align it wherever you want.
No you don't, the way that guy made the 900 m's was with frivolous law suits. The kind that's destroying our justice system.
What?
Did you mean to post something else?
I understand the problem, there could be several things happening.
First, find out what error message they are recieving by asking them to open up the java console...That should display the errors(that is of course if you have system.out.println() statements). Once you find out that your home free because you can simply search google to check what that error means.
Now one other common problem is the container. Older versions of java get mad if you don't use lines such as this:
getContentPane().setLayout(new FlowLayout());
instead of the newer supported ways:
setLayout(new FlowLayout());
I've seen that many times.
Anyways, let me look at the source code(if you don't mind) and I can tell you wether it's a coding problem or not.
Thanks but I finally got this figured out. The program I'm working on is an applet and applets offer easy methods to do this. I was making things harder than they were.
If found it. Goto your control panel under add/remove programs. Uninstall all JRE's except for 1.5. If your like me you'll have to uninstall about 5 of them. After that it should work.
