Hehe ! I'd been finding the tweeks and testing them on different pc's ... but I didnt find any time to post them ... now that its sunday ... I want to post them all :)

Yes .. the programs use dll libraries but they are not automatically unloaded ... taking a pretty much amount of ram .. only for users who dont restart programs frequently( frequently means a lot of times in one session).

Windows does not unload dll files a program has used after it has been closed, to speed up a possible restart of the program.

Use Regedit to edit: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\explorer Add the DWORD value named: AlwaysUnloadDLL and set it to 1

Disk Cleanup has a lot of options when its opened from the command prompt

Click start --> Run and type in cmd type in chkdsk.exe plus one of the following switches. In the command prompt you will type in something like chkdsk.exe /X to run the desired operation.

/C Will skip the checking of cycles within the folder structure to do a much faster run of chkdsk
/I performs a not so thorough check of index entries, also making a faster run of chkdsk
/L[:size:] allows you to designate the size of the log file.
/X dismounts the drive before scanning. This is the most thorough scan available.

Run regedit from your run menu and find this key :

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main

and find Search Page value and change it to google like this :

"Search Bar"="http://www.google.com/ie"

XP automatically searches your network for any network shares (Printers and Files). While it's looking for this information you're sitting there waiting for your stuff to be displayed. If you'd like to speed this up then here's your instructions.
Open My Computer
Click Tools --> Folder Options
Select the View Tab
The first box says "Automatically search for network folders and printers" Uncheck the box next to it.
Click "Apply" or "OK"

This will boost your loading of drives when you open my computer.

Is it the option when the choice of operating systems is displayed ??? then you can do something like this .... if you can start your windows .... right click my computer go to properties ... > advanced .. > startup and recovery settings ..> select your default os and uncheck time to display list of os. You can also edit all these settings manually by typing msconfig in the run dialog box ... and then selecting boot.ini .... but only do it if you know something about it.

What OS are you using ?? you can use softwares like folder guard and folder hide etc. any ways.

You must now reinstall your windows ... dont upgrade it .. just install a fresh copy.

You can uninstall windows messenger from the add/remove windows components ...

if you are using win 2000 or win xp .. you can repair the windows. You can also start your windows with last known good configuration.

Zone alarm and kaspersky are good antiviruses which dont take more resources. And a funny thing ... I've also run win xp on 64 mb of ram .. and it worked fine for me .. hehe.

specifically which windows are you using ?? for win xp go to administrative tools in control panel .. then go to services and set your desired service to auto.

try turning off program control and then sign in. I have zone alarm ... but I dont have any problems with it.

Hey thanks very much catweazle and coconut monkey ... You gave me some of the most useful advice .... now that I have repartitioned all my hard drive ... now my system looks speedy. I have compared the speeds of both the pcs ... now my system is booting faster than the other one and I am pretty content and it was not possible without you:) thanks very much again.

Its on when I boot my pc ... the other pc which is a p3 I've networked with boots faster than my pc.

I've been doing good with my math courses ... and I had all types of problems with my computer science problems ... but lately when I am finishing my degree I am happy with all my work ....... nothing to bother .. just go on take the courses ... they'll be helping in your computer science courses. And never think of leaving in the middle again . Okay ??

Nope I dont see much page file usage even when I am working with microsoft office ... so I dont think ram is a problem ... I have the windows classic theme turned on.

Although not strictly computer funnies ... but they look good to me.

A group of frogs were travelling through the woods, and two of them

I've got win xp .. with 256 mb of ram ... and swaping is not a problem as the core kernel files are specified as always remain in the memory. I defragmented all the drives, removed spyware and adware, completed a full virus scan ... but its not working.

My hard disc is slowing a little bit ... I reinstalled windows on an ntfs file system ... but it didnt matter .. now if I format all my hard drive ... will it restore its speed or there are other factors that affect the speed of the hard drive ??
