I tried that and put the cover back on and connected power cord, monitor, mouse and keyboard, but when I pushed the power button, nothing happened. Monitor light came on, but not the tower. Plug is secure. Any ideas on what would cause no power at this point?

Help, please!

I turned on my computer and got a black screen with the message: “Reboot and Select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key”

I had no prior warning or problems with my computer.

I hit F1 for the setup menu and there is no hard drive listed under channel devices on the main Tab! It says [None] for First and Second Channel Device 0 and 1. The CD and DVD drives are listed under Channel Device 0 and 1. For Installed Memory it says “1024 MB/PC2-3200 and Memory Bank 0 and 2 show 512 MB/DDR2 SDRAM.

Under Advanced tab, it lists CPU type as Intel Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHz with HT Technology and it lists the CPU Speed and Cache RAM.

If I go to advanced under Boot Device Priority, hard drive group is listed but has parentheses around it. To the right, it says that means the device has been disabled in the corresponding type menu, but I don’t see it anywhere as disabled.

I bought this tower several months ago used and it has no warranty. There was no boot cd with it. I hate that whenever I buy a computer, it already has OEM operating system and I never get a disk. It seems that solutions to many of my problems over the years involve inserting the cd. Is there any way to buy a boot cd or win xp cd …

Hi,

I keep getting popup message "The procedure entry point CoInternetCombineUrlEx could not be located in the dynamic link library urlmon.dll while I am using AOL. They told me to do a quick restore which did not work. I uninstalled and reinstalled AOL and still have the same problem. They don't seem to have any other answers so far.

I also get an IE script error when trying to print in AOL. It says invalid argument for "URL res://C:\WINDOWS\system32\shdoclc.dll/preview.dlg". Disable script debugging is checked in advanced section of internet options. I tried a regsvr32 shdoclc.dll but got a message saying that shdoclc.dll was loaded but the "DllRegisterServer entry point could not be found. The file cannot be registered." I was able to reregister urlmon.dll successfully.

Does anyone have any ideas other than getting rid of AOL?

I am using Windows XP SP2.

Thanks,

Gail

No, that's my problem. The owner doesn't want to do anything like that.

Hi,

I recently moved and am renting a room with a family in a 3 story home. My room is on the 3rd floor and the router and modem are on the first floor. The owner does not want to go through any walls with cables. I have limited or very low connection and have trouble getting on the internet. I have 1 or 2 bars. When I am on it, it is very slow to move from web pages or sites. The speed is only 12.0 MBPS right now. I feel like I am back on dialup! I have a desktop with windows xp sp 2. I purchased a Belkin N+ Wireless USB Network Adapter. I was temporarily using a borrowed Linksys Ultra Rangemax Dual Band Wireless N Network Adapter that did not get any better connection. They have a Westell modem and a Netgear Dual Band N Router and have a package plan from Verizon Fios.

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions of anything I can do to improve my connection since I don't have any control over the router? Would it make any difference if I got a more powerful adapter? Is it possible for me to have my own router also without having a different service? What about a range extender? I see good reviews for this Hawking Technology - Hi-Gain 802.11n Wireless-N Range Extender at Best Buy. Would this be installed in my room or would it have to go with the router …

Regarding the format of the music files, as I said, I converted any mp3 files to wma. Plus, there were a few wav files.

Thanks,

Hi,

Not sure where to post this question.

I created a slideshow like I do every year for our halloween party in windows movie maker. I imported the music and sounds I wanted, but there is no sound when I playback the storyboard or timeline. If I click on the imported file in collections and select play clip, it plays fine. They play okay in windows media player also.

I downloaded Windows Media Encoder and converted the mp3 files to wma as suggested on another forum even though I haven’t had a problem with sound in the past. I also unchecked a filter ending in .ax. as suggested. I checked the audio levels. Still no luck.

I am running out to time!

Does anyone have any other suggestions I can try?

I have Win XP SP2 and am using Windows Movie Maker 2.1.4026.0

Thanks for your help.

I did download Firefox but I haven't installed it yet. I finally just uninstalled IE7 which then reverted back to IE6, which completely solved the problem. I actually like IE6 better than 7, but I will install Firefox if I have any problems or even just to try it out and compare.

Thanks for your input. Do you know if or how I can mark this thread as solved?

still Need Help, Please.

Hi everyone,

I have been trying to fix a problem with Red X's in boxes instead of text or pictures. This happens for each box in Print preview, as well as some websites, including Microsoft.com/windows/IE/community. I have tried several suggestions such as:
Empty the cache
Reduce the size of my cache
Check the Host File
Run winsockxpfix
Make sure Show Pictures is checked in Advanced tab of Internet Options
Reset Internet Options to default levels
Make sure encoding is set for Western European (windows) and Auto Select

This has been happening for quite awhile. I cannot tie it to any specific event.

I ran all my anti spyware programs, checked my firewall (free Zone alarm)
Ran chdsk and defrag

Does anyone have any more ideas on what I can try?

Should I reset IE7 settings on the advance tab?

Should I uninstall IE7 and reinstall?

Should I perform a repair installation of Windows XP?

Doing a System Restore wouldn't work since I can't go back far enough before this problem started.

I have Windows XP, SP2 with IE7.

Can anyone help, please?

Thanks,

Gail

That are image files or animations or may be a flash ActiveX content. They will be blocked if your browser settings is changed. To verify go to the Internet options by right click on IE icon and select the properties> go to tab 'advanced' and check the category 'Multimedia'.
Mark the animations, show the picture, video on page..if they are unchecked.

Let me know what happens then..

The animations and pictures boxes were checked. The show image download placeholders wasn't checked so I checked it. All boxes under "Multimedia are now checked. Still have the same problem. What should be checked for active x content?

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. I appreciate it.

When I got on some websites, there are several red "X" in boxes. When pointing mouse on it, it shows what the area is, but I am unable to click on it to enter that area. This doesn't happen on every website, but quite often. I hope I am explaining this well enough to be understood. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it?

I have Windows XP and IE 7.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

A utility program from a site and person I respect and have used before was suggested to me. It found 4 incorrect registry entries and fixed them. Problem solved! Thanks for replying.

Hi,

When I check "restore my computer to an earlier time" in system restore and click on next, I get the following message:

The following calendar displays in bold all of the dates that have restore points available. The list displays the restore points that are available for the selected date.

1. On this calendar, click a bold date 2. On this list, click a bold date
< >
There are no restore points created yet for this day. To
restore immediately, pick another day and restore point,
and then try again.

There is no calendar displayed with ANY dates. There is just the message above in a box with the previous day and next day arrow buttons that do not work. Clicking on previous day arrow or next day arrow does nothing. Clicking on "Next" does nothing.

I have created new restore points that show as completed but they do not show up either.

Can anyone help?

I have windows xp with plenty of free space.

Thanks,

Gail

Hi Dennis,

Thank you so much for replying. This is so strange. It did not have that name previously. I somehow connected it to my grandson's old mp3 player. And why would a Samsung hard drive be part of a Compaq Presario system? Oh well, thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it.

It has the correct name in Windows Explorer (Hard Drive C:). But in device manager and everywhere else, the other name appears. Even when I run Belarc Advisor, it shows the Samsung name for the hard drive.

Hi, I am new to this forum. Not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but it sounds like you guys are hard core techs and I figured someone here would know how to fix my problem.:icon_lol:

Somehow, my hard drive name changed to the name of an mp3 I connected over a year ago for my grandson to download songs. It shows up in several places with the name Samsung SP1230N.

Does anyone know how I can change it back?

Thanks for your help.
