I have seen a few issues with ATI applications and .NET. Its not the drivers that are written in .NET, its the other application like the control panel for ATI.

I have made a registry fix that has worked for me every time. This registry file will remove all instances of .NET from your registry.

Step 1. Uninstall all ATI software and drivers
Step 2. Uninstall All .Net installations
Step 3. Download and run this registry file and select yes when prompted
http://smstech.dnsalias.com/remove_dot_net/REMOVE%20DOTNET.reg
Step 4. Restart computer
Step 5. Reinstall all .Net versions
Step 6. Reinstall ATI software and drivers

Hopefully this helps you fix your ploblem. Good luck!

Have you tried to run it in compatibility mode?

Right click the outlook shortcut and select properties
Select compatibility tab
Check run this porgram in compatibility mode for:
And choose an os its known to work on.

If this still doesnt work, try right clicking on the outlook shortcut and select "run as administrator"

I tend to stay away from "Registry Fixers" as they can do more damage than good. The windows CD's are free, its the licenses you pay for. Borrow somones :)

But make sure its the same version.. Home OEM, Home Retail, Pro OEM, Pro Retail are 4 different version. All through actually oem and retail are same, you cant do a repair install on one using the other. And of course your cd key would not work anyways.

Another windows file you could try to register is the windows scripting host ("regsvr32 wshom.ocx").

If this still doesnt fix the problem i have put together all the windows search assistant files from a clean install in the zip file below. After you download the file unzip it to a location and then right click on "srchasst.inf" and click install. If any prompts appear saying they cant find a file and want a path, then point it to the path of the files you just unzipped.

good luck.

When the error occurs there is an option to view more information on it. Can you copy and paste that whole error report here?

Its possible that this could be caused by an application the uses shell intergration. For example when you right click on files some programs add their own options to menus. Do you know of any application that use shell intergration?

Try to repair xp's system files with the "sfc /scannow" from command prompt (windows xp cd will be needed)

seanmsiegel 0 Newbie Poster

As stated in my earlier post, it was when the files were gone, not unregistered. The spyware/adaware actually infected some system files to force the search bar to go to "bad" websites instead of the MSN search / windows desktop search. When the adaware program removed them it ended up removing system files. Hence it was just easier to do a system repair. Not to say your solution will not work, i actually hope it does, system repairs can take a while and as you said all those downloads :(

Yeah thats true. I just havent ran into a instance where the files were missing or corrupted. I think a system file check "sfc /scannow" from command line can help to fix\restore certain files that needed attention and might be quicker than a repair install.

But when using sfc it asks for your xp cd so then again you may have to reinstall some updates on certain instances, Im not 100% sure.

I concure with seanmsiegel. This problem usually occured after running adaware/spybot and you actually pulled some system files out. A fix that has always worked for me is doing a system repair. Boot of the windows cd, and do not do the first repair (to command line) do the second repair.

Thats a little drastic for such a small problem. I repaired this issue many times with this solution
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/831430

The down side to doing a repair install is you lose all your windows updates and will have to reinstall them all.

I have seen this before and it seemed to be the work of spyware\malware. I would suggest scanning your system if you havent.

Here is a fix that has worked for me.

What do you mean when you close windows explorer?

Can you repeat the crash? Does it happen at all on its own or only on you specific actions?

Is there anything at all in common each time it crashes? Are there video files in folders you have open?

This issue could be many different things.

Non administrators do have access to the program files directory. I believe they only have read permission but any application already present and ran from the directory has write permission.

An administrative account is needed to install software and thats how it should be. Placing the application somewhere else would defeat the purpose of different account levels.

Is this a Wireless USB Adapter you are talking about? What brand\model\version is it?

seanmsiegel 0 Newbie Poster

First off give me some more information so i can help you out better.

What bittorrent client are you using and what version is it?

Do you have DSL or CABLE?

Are you using a Router and Modem or a modem alone?

What is the brand of your modem\router?

Does your computer have a lan ip address or an internet ip address:

click the start button then "all programs" then "command prompt".
Now in the command prompt window type "ipconfig" and press enter

Now what does it say your IPv4 address is? (please only post the first 2 set of numbers for your own protection. the number is in the x.x.x.x format)

I have no expeience with ISS but this is clearly a problem in your IIS configuration. Instead of ISS executing the ASP scripts its just allowing you to download them.

I think this should solve your problem

Yeah it is a DNS problem but the DNS is timing out because he seems to lose his connection all together. He says once he gets the error he has to reconnect to get it working again.

I have 5 things for you to try..

1. DNS Server
The only thing unusual thing i see in your hijackthis log is that you have a static dns server set.. If you do not use you LAN connection or are sure you dont need this DNS server then remove it with hijackthis. This could be the cause of your whole problem.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{F425979B-47B3-482A-B34A-74773D73B5D9}: NameServer = 205.188.146.145

2. Proxy Server
In internet explorer click tools>>internet options then click on the connections tab and then the lan settings button and check if "use a proxy server for.." is checked. If so uncheck it. Sometimes spyware uses this and even removing the spyware leaves this setting still set.

3. Repair Winsock
Another thing you could try it to totally repair winsock with this little utility:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/winsockxpfix.html

4. Hosts File
Open hijackthis click "none of the above, just start the program"
Click "config"
Click "misc tools"
Click "open hosts file manager"
Then click "open in notepad" and post the contents of the file back here.

5. Reinstall AOL if you havent done so yet.

I have windows xp home. I am using aol 9.0VR dialup. I make online memorials. When I go to upload a photo The blue bar fills like it is being loaded and then I get a dns error page..like I am not online. It will then error out all of my open web pages and the error message will appear in any new page I try to open. i have to restart aol to fix this.

It says the page can not be displayed and I need to adjust my browser settings. I have checked my ssl 2.0, ssl 3.0, tls 1.0 settings and cannot find the checkbox for my pct 1.0 setting.

I do not have a virus or any other malware problems. I have cleaned out my cache, fixed my registry, etc. and I can not get this problem to go away. AOl says it's a microsoft problem. Microsoft says it's an aol problem...can anyone please help me with this?

It seems you are losing your internet connection all together. Have you noticed any static on your phone lines or have you added any new phones or answering machines. If the line is fine then i would run a spyware scan. Download Hijackthis to your desktop, run a scan and post the scan log here for me to take a look at.

Thanks for the tip. Unfortunately, I won't be able to try it out for you, as I just got told another solution that works, and I don't want to rock the boat!

Apparently, the upgrade has a habit of hiding some of the old 2000 accounts (especially if they're called "Administrator"). So Ctrl-Alt-Del twice on the login screen will give you the old 2000 style login where you can enter the old login name. And that worked well. Then, a little bit of registry editing convinces XP to show the hidden account on the welcome screen.

If anyone wants to know how, then this link is what I used: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2006/05/07/unhide-the-administrator-account-in-windows-xp/

Thanks for your help.

Ah i see. I was asuming the accounts were gone, which did seem weird to me. I guess they were just locked or hidden.

I figured out a trick that works to recover XP User accounts when doing a clean install of XP but i have never attempted to recover a 2000 Account to XP.

1. Locate the old user profiles in c:\documents and settings\" and rename them all by adding something like "_old" to their names.

2. Create the new user from the XP control panel

3. Log off current user and log onto the newly created user. During the first login windows will recreate the users folder in c:\documents and settings\". Make note of the newly created folder

4. Log off the new user and log back onto any other administrator account

5. Delete the new folder windows created for the user at logon in step 3

6. Rename the folder from step 1 again to the name of the new folder you just deleted in step 3.

This works every time for me when restoring xp accounts. It wouldnt hurt to try in your case though. I would be very interested if it works or not.

This is typically 1 of 4 things.. Badly Written CD, Dirty CD-Rom drive, Bad hard drive, or bad memory(ram).

1. Try loweing the speed in which you burn the iso to disc. Nero and most other utilities have an option to change burn speed.

2. Blow compressed air or blow into the drive yourself to try and clean out dust. Or get a Drive cleaning kit for about $20 from walmart.

3. Test your computers memory with this diagnostic utility:
http://memtest86.com/

4. Test your hard drive with a diagnostic utility from the manufacturer of the drive.
For seagate or maxtor use:

Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is a very common problem and i see it all the time. It is caused by faulty drivers, bad hardware, or internal components have came partially disconnected. But overall the problem is usually with the windows partiton. I have fixed this problem many times simply running CHKDSK from the recovery console.

1. Boot computer with Windows CD
2. Press R to goto the recovery console when prompted to
3. Selected your windows installtion when prompted and enter password if prompted
4. type "CHKDSK c: /r" as the command line

Once chkdsk is complete restart the …

This seems to be a codec problem from the sound of it. Windows attempts to use the proper codec needed for a partiular video so that it can create a preview iamge. I would first try to update the codec to its latest version.

To find out which codecs particular video files use you can use this utility:
http://www.free-codecs.com/download/GSpot.htm

He is a pack of the most common up to date codecs:
