Its all about marketing. How long ago was that artical published? Was it before the Itanium processors were released by Intel? With Windows 64 about to be released, 64 bit processors will start to flood the market even moreso then they already have.

Are you running any anti virus? If so, run a scan of your PC. If not, uninstall any software you've installed leading up to the first instance your PC froze until presant. Failing that, Back up Format reinstall do da do da. A fresh format always clears your mind

Go with the basic ASUS models. Their pretty cheap, and very reilable. I've never had a problem with them, and they will run almost everything you throw at them.

isopropyl alcohol (Rubbing Alcahol) has always worked for me. NEver leaves any residue behind, and the heatsinks/heat spreader pretty clean.

Sounds like the drive is dead. Try it out in another PC if you can, if not, reinstall the drivers for the SATA controler. Failing that, the disks inside the drive make excelent throwing stars when cut up and sharpened!
