But I trust you would be objective and criticise this site if you thought something was in need of criticism, so I take it that you are being honest and not just jumping to Dani's defense as a loyal member of this website/forum.

Indeed I would, and have done before now :)

I disagree with you about it being the best or even better than many other forums. I post frequently on about 10 programming/web dev forums and daniweb ranks low in that regards.

It's good to disagree, otherwise it wouldn't be much of a discussion forum after all :) My experience is different to yours, but I guess we don't frequent the same haunts.

Your opinions with regard to ways we could improve are always welcome.

Anyways, I've made my point, there is nothing new for me to add to it. This is a good site, keep up the good work.

Thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated.

My tattooist does a pretty good freehand circle on skin, but I'm not sure she would want to enter the perfect circle world championship. Do they judge them on speed or roundness I wonder?

Whoops, should have said that for me a good date is any time from the 19th Feb to the end of the month...

happygeek 2,411 Most Valuable Poster Team Colleague Featured Poster

OK, let's start thinking about dates if we want to get this off the ground and actually happening.

If everyone posts a couple of dates that would be good for them, along with any additional reasoning (computer show, event happening alongside) then we can begin the process of elimination...

An interesting story came into my radar this week when one of my sources told me of problems some chap had when installing Yahoo Messenger with the auto-update function enabled.

Turns out, apparently, that this chap discovered immediately that all his web link associations were changed from Firefox, his default system browser, to IE7 and then a rather confusing error message was thrown up informing him of this change and offering to 'fix your settings' or 'accept changes.'

Now this is where Yahoo would appear to have got rather sneaky and dealt the low-blow. Thinking that something is interfering with your browser settings you would most likely not want to accept the changes, instead you would go for the fix problem route. Which is what chappy did, only to discover his homepage was now pointing to Yahoo by default and IE was defaulting to Yahoo for search as well.

Sort of brings a new meaning to search engine optimization huh?

So, World of Warcraft has hit eight million subscribers across four continents and is played in seven languages, and it is only two years old.

Latest figures released show that there are a couple of million North American players, one and half million in Europe and a whopping great three and half million in China.

But does this make it the greatest online multi-player game ever, or just the fastest growing?

The only clever thing about this is the acronym, PERFORM.

This bill has been introduced in the US Senate again, following its defeat in committee back in April last year. Hopefully it will suffer the same fate again.

When will TPTB learn that they just cannot dictate the pace and direction of technology, and legislate to hamstring technological advances which powerful lobbyists dislike? PERFORM wants to force satellite, digital, and Internet radio providers to provide measures to prevent listeners from recording audio broadcasts. The bill does not apply to over the air radio, funnily enough.

I am not for copyright infringement, but random legislative acts which will be all but unenforceable anyway, given the technology out there, seem a monumental waste of time and money...

Go on, shoot me down in flames :)
