As for what I cannot type, it depends on how tired I am and how fast I am typing. If the answer to both is very, then because always comes out as becuase for some reason.

I used to wear out keyboards in a very short time, most often the lettering goes first quickly followed by the keys cracking up. Best I have found for a combination of longevity and real every-day-a-few-thousand-words usability are the solid IBM SK-8820's. In fact I like 'em so much I have a dozen of them in the office so I never run out. Current one is one a few million words and still going strong.

My schedule didn't allow for much fun, apart from the last night when the arranged dinner was canceled so the four of us from the UK had a rather boozy night in the swish oriental restaurant (I know, but we had been eating authentically up until that point) at our hotel, the Taj Residency.

Next time, I'll hopefully have more down-time to see a bit of Bangalore...

Without starting the whole debate off again which was largely in private (either mods forum or area 51) it boils down to some people having a fundamental dislike of the IntelliTXT advertising system. So much so that some mods resigned over it being used.

The decision to use IntelliTXT was taken on a purely business basis, because without the revenue it brings we risk falling behind other similar forums which do have that IntelliTXT revenue.

OK, that's it. Can I request that this does not turn into another debate on the issue though please, with all the same old arguments revisited on both sides.

but I knew such a generalization couldn't possibly be true. IntelliTXT kind of answers my question.

But it was true, and personal reasons is a genuine answer to your question. Some left because of the IntellitXT issue, some left because they didn't have the spare time any more, some left for other reasons. It is far too simplistic to say that IntelliTXT caused a massive flood of moderator resignations, and that simply was not the case.

Moderator duty is by invite only, and you can be sure that we (as in the mods and admin at DaniWeb) are always keeping an eye open on likely candidates.

The stock response to 'how do I become a mod' is really always going to be 'by your actions' and if you prove a worthy candidate you get discussed in the mods place forum before an invitation is issued.

So there is a poll of sorts, but it is a closed one and kept within the 'management' ranks.

The cross-platform stuff is often overlooked when talking about browser clients of course, and IE is left dead in the water (obviously) by both FF and Opera in this regard.

I have used the number of open networks as a metric for the popularity of both broadband and wifi, which increasingly go hand in hand. Just 3 or 4 years ago I could wander around my village and there would not be a single wifi network, open or otherwise, picked up my my stumbler kit. Now there are dozens of them down every lane, and my village has less than a hundred houses...

I'm sorry, but I don't buy that. This is a readily-solvable issue with a few subframes. I use HTML daily in posting to Livejournal, both in blog entries and in comments, and I never bother to close tags if I want the effect to run through to the end of my post - I know that LJ will handle it and sort it for me. That is, after all, what computers are for!

The difference being that this isn't LJ, and nor is it primarily a blogging system. DaniWeb is a forum based community first and foremost, the blogging system is a custom coded one created by the hand of Dani herself and so works rather differently to the ones you are used to. Although I am sure she will be along in a moment to answer for herself, I suspect that HTML was not allowed in the blogs for the same reasons as the forums and that to add the safeguards you mention, ala LJ etc, would be too much coding overhead on the limited resources we have here at DaniWeb.

We are, please remember, a new and growing community, so allow us some time to evolve :)

And, anyway, don't give us your LJ blog postings give us the fresh, exciting, new and original stuff. Go on, I know you want to :)

Finally, you will find that DaniWeb is very responsive to debating issues that members bring up. It may not always get resolved …

In your case I guess the danger is minimal, but as soon as you add stuff like online banking, paypal, eBay etc then it becomes a whole new ballgame of risk.
