yeah i was thinking of making my own image now that I realized some of the programs are terrible, but at the time I just wanted a quick restore

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

its all good now, right after I fixed the problem, I received the discs from dell that have all the software and drivers that I can install to make my xps just like i received it......a little too late dell.

my mbr was screwed up before i used partition management software....i just used the software to see files on the recovery partition anyway, not to manipulate files

using the dos commands is actually really easy so i'll stick to that if this happens again in the future because the 'repair your computer' option is still gone haha.

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

Well, I already solved the problem using the methods that I referenced to, but...

Your way (pressing f8) does not work....When I pressed f8 (before I fixed the problem...seen in my last post), 'repair your computer' was not listed.

So I fixed it using the manual way described above.

here is what i did, through some tricky workarounds using live cd's, third party programs, and dos commands, I finally restored the factory image...

these guides really helped out for anyone else that has this problem in the future....

I am trying to restore my laptop (studio xps 16) to factory settings using the recovery image. If I look in my computer, i can see C and D drives. D is my recovery partition with 7gb full out of 10gb. This is good and dandy except when i open the D drive, there is one folder that says RECOVERY that is empty. Why is it empty when there are 7gb's of files in there? I already have hidden files shown. I don't know how else to restore my laptop. Any ideas?

Also, I downloaded partition wizard home edition and i was able to view the files on the recovery partition. For some reason this program lets me see them, so i know they are there. But, when using regular windows explorer to look in the recovery folder there are no files.

netgear and i dont think there is a limit to wireless devices

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

psp, laptop, ps3 is wireless

xbox and pc are the only wired items.

I can't just bridge the connection or make it so the old router acts as a repeater not a router?

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

i dont know what happened, but it works again.

i also reinstalled windows again just to be sure

I just got fios installed in my house. It comes with the wireless router...which is setup downstairs on the family pc. All my stuff...xbox, laptop, pc, psp, ps3 are all up stairs where the signal is weak. I have the old wireless router still. Can I set that up somehow so that I can get a better signal upstairs with all of my stuff?

I haven't touched the bios in months. It was working fine, then all of a sudden, it stopped working.

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

I tried all USB slots and I have a Ps/2 keyboard and it still doesn't work. I know both keyboards work because I just tried them on another computer.

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

mine does the same thing, but it beeps once only.

there is no lights on either usb or ps/2 keyboard I use...but they work fine on other computers.

I am lost

When I boot up my pc, the first thing that happens is it goes to the bios status screen. It says information about ram, cpu, hdd's, etc. Then it asks you to press f1 to continue or delete to go to setup. This is how it has started up everytime, and I would just press f1 and continue with boot up successfully. Now all of a sudden, my wireless usb/keyboard doesnt work at all and neither does my standard usb keyboard. So, I can't even use my computer anymore because I can't get past that first screen. Any ideas? BTW, I am typing this on my ps3, woohoo (the wireless keyboard works fine on it).

I have been trying to reformat win xp pro. I have the cd. I put it in. I selected "boot from cd" etc, etc. When I turn my pc on and it goes into the setup menu, it doesn't even get to the place where i can delete partitions. It just doesn't exist or something. I don't know what to do. The only thing I can do is repair or install a clean copy of xp. But I tried both. Repairing doesn't do anything, and when I install a new copy, all my programs are still there. Its like it doesn't work. Any ideas?

On my 5150 dimension its Control and F11 or something like that (similar to ibm thinkpads) during the bootup (cant remember if before or after post) to bring up the symantec system restore thing.

Winner

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

I have a dell, and the way I wipe the pc clean is to restart the pc, then I press some buttons which brings up the restore "to when I first got my pc" I've done it before, I just forget those simple keys you press when the pc is booting up. Anyone know which keys I press. thanks.

I have about 230 songs of this type(mpeg-4 audio) in a folder and I want to put them on my mp3 player....my mp3 doesnt play mpeg-4 audio. So I need to get them to mp3 format. Is this possible? Is there a converter out there?

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

ie6 with google toolbar and just the basic macromedia, etc extensions on it.

BTW, I have made up my mind to buy a new pc this may.

Here are some possible specs:

amd athlon 64 x2 3800+
1gb corsair pc3200
80 seagate hd 7200 8mb
xion ii case
500w psu
asus a8n32 sli deluxe motherboard
i'll keep my dell flat panel 'cause it works fine
two geforce 6800 gs video cards
higher psu and better cooling down the road
and of course, overclocked a lil

So what do you think about this project? Will it suit my gaming needs? And its not extremely expensive either.

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

I didn't find any problems. All my scans are skweaky clean.

I listen and download music and movies, internet, school reports, backing up stuff for my psp, and high quality games.

Ok I found out that 533 fsb is the most i can go. So how about this:

Newegg also has it I believe.

Will I notice a difference? I hope so.

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

Ok, I have a dell de051 motherboard according to everest. Now what does this mean as afar as upgrading processors?

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

What should I do. I have gone through everything that I can think of. Here is my setup to help.

1). computer #1 in my brothers room(has wireless router and modem attached to his pc)
2). computer #2 in my room(connected to the router by ethernet cable)
3). computer #3 in the basement(connected to the router by wireless card)
4). printer connected to computer#3 by a usb cable.

What am I doing wrong. Everytime I try to print from computer#2(where I'm typin now), it says connection problem. What gives I tell ya, what gives!

Well I got the pc at the end of december '05. So it is new. Some other forums recently told me about this quick lil program that disables programs running in the system tray. So currently, all I have running is avg free. I uninstalled some programs and also did the defrag and disk clean up. I see a difference. It is really quick to start up now. The internet is still not that fast, but it did speed up. For the mother board, I am not sure, but I think it is an intel. Here is the information I got from amibios scan.

SMBIOS info:
Manufacturer : Dell Computer Corp.
Product Name : 0CF458
Version :
Serial Number: ..CN7082159TA426.

Is there a certain way to see what motherboard I have? I also know it came with intel integrated graphics and it is socket 478.

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

Ok, now I got rid of norton, and now avg free is the only thing running in my tray. I can't really tell if it helped or not. I also posted my hjt log file in the virus/spyware forum.

I also would like to know if any of this works...I'm having identical problems. BTW I also have norton running in the system tray.

A friend told me that he heard a rumor that norton creates viruses/spyware/etc... so that you buy their product. Ever hear of this?

fuzzypumpkins 0 Light Poster

My computer is slow all of a sudden, not like it used to be when I first had it. I only have norton antivirus running in the system tray and itunes occasionally. I have a 2.53 celly. 1gbram. winxp w/ sp2. 40gb harddrive w/ 50% free. Nvidia geforce fx5500. I installed spyware/adware removers, and they say my pc is fine. The socket is 478, so can I just buy a P4 3.2ghz(for example) and drop it in and go? Am I missing something? Thanks.
