in school i learned to use linux in just a few hours for a couple days,
so i wanna say it's easy , but mastering is futile. so what i would do
is have books and resources at my fingertips instead of trying memorizing,

get your company to hire me as a temp! hahha just kidding(i'm way too rusty)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

a bear for me, as well

the second test told me my dns server is not configured, so i guess the isp is not ready.
i am using teredo, so i'm not sure if my box is ready. but i'll probably get a new one before i'm affected:)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

go ahead and report me if you want to, Bal

i am here to learn AND share what i know
if you don't like what i have to say, then give me a good explanation

when i thought i had a bad psu, i would've loved to try this short-circuit test
(i might even try it out myself with my spare computer parts just to see if it works)

did stupendousomega tell you my post is unhelpful? or are you just picking on me?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

yeah me too, i have a usb wg111v3 adapter, it works perfect for xp, but now
that i'm using win7 again, my problem is back again.

what happens to me, though, is i lose my internet connection, the light on the adapter stays on solid(usually it blinks).
nothing freezes until i try to shut down or restart. then i have to pull the plug.
and reinstall the adapter every time

i also have dynamic ip address, anything else i can do besides updating & harassing
netgear about it?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

well your router needs to support ipv6 as well.

i am still trying to learn all i can about ipv6, because time waits for nobody!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

my only suggestion would be to take it apart and remove the button(or physically block it or something
but then you couldn't reset it without taking it apart again :(

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

Ummm....you actually sound a bit more knowledgeable than me but,
have you tried remote desktop?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

to test your psu, you can short the green wire to a black one
leave the psu plugged in the moboard, but take a paperclip and jam it in the green wire slot and any ground wire slot(black). this will bypass your motherboard and the psu fan should spin when you press the power button.

i've never actually done it myself, but when i read about it online,it sounds like an easy way to test.

also, some psus have atest button, you probably would have already seen it though.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

I have read(in an unsolved thread) that IE9 does not support framesets.

i still use ie8 and it works just fine for me, but when i upgrade,
ie9 acts like its infected and hangs

i tried reinstalling with security essentials disabled, but no luck,
could windows defender be interfering?
i searched technet and the web a little bit, but i gave up and went back to 8

i use win7 pro, 2.1GHz cpu,1.5GB ram

This is not an emergency, so please only post if you are 100% sure you can help or need more information about my system or network or problem, thanks!

you say jokes about technology like;

'that router is so old, its ip address is 1'

sergent commented: Hey, thats not that geeky! I make this kinds of jokes all the time! +0

How to check router settings:

Open:Cmd.exe
type:ipconfig
press enter
read the output. your router's ip address is listed as "default gateway"
open your internet browser
type your default gateway address where you normally type website addresses
press enter
your router's settings page should appear
every type of router's page is different, and has different options
try to find your dhcp client list(not all routers can be a dhcp server)
set a password, security settings and so on, etc.

i'm only telling you this so you can have more confidence talking to the ISP.
because yes it is possible that your neighbors could be stealing your bandwith
(especially if you reset the router, because then the password is gone)

and kraai, LAN is Local Area Network, WAN is Wide Area Network and WLAN means Wireless Local Area Network. They said they had fixed the faulty line so
i really don't know what the hell is going on(but i want know).
you must think his ISP is lying to him? that is always a possibility

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i guess i wasn't joking then, about the router. did they supply it? or do you own it? router firewalls are important.

some other ideas:
-turn on tracking blocker(or whatever it called, a.k.a. inprivate filtering)from tools menu internet xplorer.
-and disable all add-ons(from same menu
-block 3rd party cookies(or all)tools>internetoptions>privacy>advanced
-YOU didn't download and install anything, but what about auto-updates?
-reliability monitor is a neat little new thing for 7,but needs a restore point for it to function at all.

maybe they didn't fix it yet...did you see them do any work?

ok, that's all i got for now

ok i got another idea. i went to wikipedia to look up A4 size media.
you might be using paper that is too small!

A4 is 8.3"x11.7" compared to north american 'letter' paper is 8.5"x11"
maybe your printer & paper are from different countries!

from your own link!-
Hi Bal,

Thank you very much for your reply, I will definetly try this and let you know if it works out.

I also searched about this problem on Interent, this is what I found, based on this it looks like it can't be changed?

http://forums11.itrc.hp.com/service/...threadId=70942

All the best,
Adi
-didn't you see this? Adi?
"The OfficeJet Pro 1150 has a minimum bottom margin of 0.46 inches on A4 size media. This margin cannot be decreased. Here is a link to the print margin documentation...."

did you try 0.5" instead of 0.2"? you might also want to roll back the driver since you've changed it.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

ok...well then both computers print bad...or the printer prints bad....
follow Bal's advice and reset the printer

-is the official support page for Hp laserjet 1150 & 1300. It looks like it has ALL of the winXP printer settings&tabs and explains what they do

this address will download the user's manual-
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/bpl13095/bpl13095.pdf

isee now that it is a fairly old printer model(HP only offers support for 1 year after purchase)so iguess you can't phone them.
i also don't think you have the right driver, the manual says it should be pcl 5e.
and jetdirect card is not usable for lj1150, but other wireless networking is.
how long has it been since the printer was working good?

UGGH!
don't we all hate printers!
sounds like your printer is defective, but i'm no master expert.
last time i tried fixing an HP printer, they had my client return
the defective printer after walking me through the troubleshooting
process.
i realize you must've already checked the HP website, but here's what i found:
(i would also suggest giving them a phone call)

"•In the Windows driver dialog: select the Paper/Quality tab and then the Margins/Layout button.
NOTE: In the Windows PostScript driver, make sure you have made the right choice from the Document size list. You should select a 'no margins' document size if you intend to use the Oversize , Clip Contents By Margins or Borderless options.

•In the Mac OS Print dialog (PCL3 driver): select the Paper/Quality panel and then Layout .
•In the Mac OS X 10.4 Print dialog (PostScript driver): select the Finishing panel and then Layout .
•In the Mac OS X 10.5 or 10.6 Print dialog (PostScript driver): select the Margins/Layout panel.
•On the Embedded Web Server's Submit Job page: select Advanced settings > Paper > Layout/Margins ."

i am not talking about doing tests. i am simply suggesting something that has not been mentioned.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

hmmm...your ISP found fault in the connection? sounds vague....

i was thinking more about your router. if it is wirless, you need to create a password..etc. you can get to your router's settings by typing its IP address in the address line of your browser(at least that's how mine works). any smartphone can hack wireless routers to steal your bandwith, and a password is not always enough(especially if it is weak) also, bittorrent software should always be closed when you aren't using it.

if you get to your router's settings page, check the security log
glad if i could help
-skilly
-edit -how am i being unclear?
perhaps you need me to tell you how to find your router's IP address?
