here is for RIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remote_Installation_Services

if you learn to use WindowsAIK, you can create your own install disk. your custom install disk can have scripts to set up group policy. or you can type "gpedit.msc" to manually control group policy

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i am still only level 1 helpdesk, but antivirus is important, right?
firewall is also important
if you're using Microsoft
perhaps you could use remote desktop to install stuff

or maybe combine netsh with msiexec.exe
here is a page about it:

checking the BIOS. hold F1, or delete or something (depending on the brand) before startup. you probably already found a boot disc by now though, right?

booting into safemode loads up 'safe' drivers for your devices so, logical conculsion is bad boot file or bad hard drive, hopefully it's not a hardware problem

WOW

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

sorry i'm so late to reply, but any windows7 install disc will get you into startup repair, there is a way to make your own startup repair disc, using windowsAIK, but the install disc works just as well...
-startup repair has saved my butt more than few times!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

ok, azmah, but you did type 'x' as a variable. i just wanted to point out that it looks more like the letter 'x' than a multiply symbol :) heh hee,

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

your first link is good, your 2nd is 404 bad requeset

the first link's page first link was good, i was able to r-click, save as PDF
try in-private filter & browsing from tools menu,
or maybe just reset default settings from advanced internet options

or set program access defaults-->internet explorer from start menu
i am not sure of exact setting

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

*strange notes*
punch 6,+,2,*,10,= into windows7 calc and you get 80
punch 15,/,3,*,5,= and you get 25

VMWare is popular, and Microsoft VirtualPC for pc's and HyperV for multiple virtual servers on a single server to cut costs like the city i live in is doing :)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

also, some websites do not allow right-clicking on links of certain types.
maybe i can try, what is the address?(copy&paste from address bar)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

related functions for C are exp(), log(), and sqrt().
but i am rusty at C especially pow().
it is easier on paper as algebra first.
and i am lazy, time to remove my eyeballs!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

I assume having a server on a pc means you're using virtualization.
and xp3 & server 2003 have the same family for auto installion.
i will search for the appropriate link...beware it can be challenging to understand & use, but install includes help files....

-edit the closest i could find is xp(sp2)family AIK here the address:
http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=10333

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

and there is no equal sign, also,

the comments on the upvotes i gave you in this thread haven't been showing up, either, so also i agree repetition/drilling is best.

-edit i know 15/3*5, could also be written 5(15/3),just pointing out how the "/" char can lead to confusion when unlearning to relearn

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

when solving for x, the equation:
6+2x10=
2x10=-6 //subtract 6 from each side
20x=-6 //simplify
x=-6/20 //divide 20 from each side
x=-3/10 //lowest common denominator
x=-0.3 //decimal conversion

you can write it different ways depending what steps you want show.
we done azmah?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

I have never seen that before, sounds scary, have you checked the BIOS?
or booting into safemode?
you can also do startup repair if you have the install disc.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

I'm pretty sure your first step should be to download WindowsAIK for XP family

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

I guess there is multiple answers to this whole post(depending on the type of the math/level/step of the replierss

elementary 6+2x10 is 26
algebra 6+2x10 is x=-(0.3) //parentheses required?//

programming 6+2x10 is a user output/input or string output etc.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

So i guess you could also interpret this whole post as having two awswers...
#A 6+2x10=26 or,
#B "6+2x10 is an algebraic expression where x=-6/20=-(0.3)."

we need to know if x is an operator or a variable in this statemant,
and if i remember correctly, x is always a variable algebra. you need parentheses to multiply.

there's one more answer: #C none of the above!

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

@vernondozier 15/3*5=25or1 (or anyone else)

so how can we explain the difference of these two/three verbally?:

"fifteen over three times five equals 1"
"fifteen divided by three times five equals 25"
"15
---- =1
3(5)"
"15/3*5=25"
i guess we are all just playing with words, but saving bits is kinda important right? hmmm...i see it best as "fifteen over three times five" because of the misleading forward-slash. guess i need to study some more different types of programming :)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

maybe there's an update for the driver, check the SMC website(if they have one):)

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

sorry for posting twice in a row...
make sure host has a password-protected admin account
check group policy on host(maybe that computer is zombified)haha because only 1 user is allowed to be logged in

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

what does the error message say when you try RDP?
leave your firewall on,just click the 'exceptions' tab in firewall properties
check the 'dependence' tab properties of your remote desktop service

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

@vernondozier
15 / 3 * 5 = gibberish
there is no such thing as left/right precedence, parentheses are required.

put autounattend.xml on the root directory of a USB drive,
restart computer with install disc & usb thunbdrive

is your machine 32-bit or 64-bit?
what version of windows do you want ? (e.g. starter, home, pro, ultimate)?

it will probably be easier if i just paste an answer file here for you to use...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training
skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

sound to me like your board or cpu is fried, sorry.
that's a little bit beyond my skills...however i do know you can like reset to bios or whatever by setting the jumper to 'clear cmos'. then turn on the machine...

usually when 2 identical machines act differently it means 1 is broke, but if you don't want to give up, search for the 'answer file' online for the version of windows that you want. it's called autounattend.xml or i can make one for you. or you can make one for yourself by downloading windowsAIK....

good luck...but i am worried that the board is fried, because i'm out of ideas.

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

when you burn the dvd, make sure you burn it slow, and burn it as a 'bootable cd/dvd' and NOT a 'bootable UDF' . you might need to find out how many boot sectors are needed, but i'm not too sure about that.

also sometimes the board is so old it has no factory drivers built-in for dvd burners. in this case, you should boot from a USB 'answer file' or some other workaround(of which everybody seems to have an idea how) one way i just read about is to download something called 'ultimate boot'

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

turns out this problem happens alot when you burn your own disk, the dvd must be written at a slow speed as to avoid errors, there is tons of info if you google search, 'can not read from CD Code 5'

try using the original & see if that works

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

it actually sounds like your board is fried. or your processor...
what computer is it? maybe i can look for what code 5 means...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i'm not sure if i understand your question...

but maybe you could just plug your 'vtc' into your modem/router.

does your 'vtc' have wifi capability?
2 public addresses? how do you know this?

my networking experience is limited to using only 1 network(public)(WAN) address, so maybe if you reword your question, somebody else will help.

i assume you do not want your vtc traffic going through the router, but if you have enough bandwidth, maybe it will be okay.

i have never heard of a modem that has 2 public addresses...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

that sounds totally messed up,
are your installation disks genuine retail? or a downloaded hack?

yes, there are other ways, but it can get a little technical.
WindowsAIK(auto installation kit) is useful(but you need to learn how to use it,instructions are included, i believe)

to fix your boot menu, you can use either msconfig or download EasyBCD

-edit- check the BIOS of the boards, maybe?

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i know i'm a geek because i let one little down-vote cause me to go crazy!

sorry about the '1 bad apple' down votes to you all, perhaps someone has the time to offset these reps by up-voting and putting '1 good apple' for a comment on each?
it would be good karma

ok...here's the story, in the 'you know you are a geek when' thread, somebody
down-rated my 'you stink like BO after the slightest bit of exercise' response for no good reason. it pissed me off that somebody would rate me down for that and not even say why or who they are..
so then i decided to just downrate everyone's post in that thread in the hopes of finding out who or why my post was downrated. but mostly i would just like to know why.
the post has since been up-rated back to 0. thanks to whoever up-voted.
i will try to remove all my down-votes from that thread, but i don't think that i am able to take back votes once they are cast....

thank you all for your concern, and i'm sorry i let one anonymous bad apple spoil the whole bunch of you.

for permissions, right click the drive icon and then choose 'security' tab.
there are many different settings and buttons, don't be afraid to read & click.
just remember:
deny overrides allow, so if you lock yourself out, you might need to take ownership from the 'advanced security settings' button

if there is no 'security' tab, click 'organize' from a window, then 'folder and search options', 'view' tab, scroll down& unclick 'use sharing wizard'

if your OS is not windows7: words may be slightly different, but basically the same steps.

some more stuff to look at:
network and sharing center->change advanced sharing settings
network and sharing center->see full map

let me know how it goes or if questions

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i assume you can do it the same way as you do for any other hard drive.

i need more info, do you already know how to set permissions?
if yes, then what happens when you try?

if no, then there is a few steps involved...

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

it sure will...pci-ex16 slot

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

hi there,
i'd just like to say i agree w/ jingda on this one.
just use the same username & replace the account & favorites folder
(maybe she won't notice) if she does, tell her she needs to be more careful about viruses
a virus can do anything that a programmer can do,(if it actually runs)

but if you'd rather search for the problem,
check the security permissions on the apps.
check local group policy(this sounds possible, but i've never seen this)
it sounds to me like you want her to be a standard user, and that sounds good to me, but then you'll have to set(give) permissions on the apps. that she uses.
and she'll have to ask you to install any new apps, so that can be a lil' annoying

skilly 23 Posting Whiz in Training

i also downloaded my key, i think you can just go back to where you downloaded it
if you have your login & password. they will probably have your purchase history & key. but i don't know what site you used.
