Dr. Jackyl and Mrs. Hyde? he, he...
I can imagine what would you have to pay for to keep that warranty valid. Regular services, regular oil exchages, regular tire changes, possible suspention refurnishing, engine parts replacements... not much left to be covered with warranty.
Here's the description for Background Intelligent Transfer Service:
Transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth. If the service is stopped, features such as Windows Update, and MSN Explorer will be unable to automatically download programs and other information. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it may fail to transfer files if they do not have a fail safe mechanism to transfer files directly through IE in case BITS has been disabled.
... nothing to do with wallpapers, though.
That is a modern technology today. One would think that the gadgets would improve over time. The goal of tech. advancements is to make everything last warranty + 1 day.
he, he.. welcome to the 1-year-warranty world.
Here's a fix for your trouble.
It is a self-extracting .reg file that will delete "wallpaper" value in
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
registry key.
All you need to do is unpack that small exe file and doubleclick it. Click "yes" if prompted. It will either help or do nothing.
No viruses.
Lots of softwares can set some pic as desktop wallpaper. Even Internet Explorer, when you rightclick on some pic and click on "set as background".
It will not go away. It will die on you eventually, if it is a faulty RAM and not just connections... Use the warranty if it is still valid.
Sony VIAO VGN-B1XP... Laptop. I could used this little piece of info earlier, before I strayed into the custom-built-desktops waters...
This can only mean that your memory chip came with it. No compatibility issues. All you can do is reseat it or replace it. It is obvious to me that the memory chip is faulty or got shooked out of the socket a bit.
There is a section in manual that describes how to reach that memory. You'll need to remove the keyboard. Pull it out and plug it back it (that is re-seating). Try not to touch metal parts of the chip. Plastic only. Electrostatic discharge from your bare hands can easily fry it. If possible, use PVC bag as glove to avoid contact with metal parts of a chip.
If that doesn't help, you'll need to replace it.
Anyway, check if the warranty is still valid. If it is, use it to get new RAM.
I don't know. If you post your mobo model, maybe I could download manual and tell you exactly what and where. While you're at it, RAM model will help too.
I truly wish that there are no phone bills, but this reminds me of great Tesla and his attempt to distribute free wireless electric power.
In my book, honesty goes a long way. Longer than any looks or brains.
Sounds utopistic.
Any high-ranking government official, that needs to sign the concession on (GSM or TV) frequency will take into consideration 1000s of employees working for real phone companies and the landslide of their customers rushing to google for a free service. They will see that it would mean 1000s of unemployed people in their district/state. You really think that it will ever see the daylight? *shakes his head*
what if she tricks you into thinking she is intelligent?
Then she is, or you aren't. Any way around, you're a match.
You can't. That icon is embedded in the .exe file. There are programs that actually do that sort of customizing (microangelo, if I remember correctly), but that means changing the .exe file, and that is a BIG no-no. Copyright, corrupting and such.
You don't need any software to change those settings. It is not possible change with any software. You need to get in BIOS settings. You can do it when your PC is booting and you see the message on the bottom of the screen saying "press del to enter BIOS" or something. Usually it is del, but it can also be F1, F2, F12... depends on the mobo.
Once you are in, navigate around until you find the DRAM settings.
My BIOS DRAM settings screen looks like this:
Timing mode [AUTO]
Memclock Index value(MHz) [400MHz]
CAS# latency (Tcl) [2.5]
Min RAS# active time (Tras) [8T]
RAS# to CAS# delay (Trcd) [4T]
Row precharge Time (Trp) [4T]
Row cycle time (Trc) [11T]
Row refresh cyc time (Trfc) [14T]
Read-to-Write time (Trwt) [4T]
Write Recovery time (Twr) [3T]
1T/2T Memory Timing [2T]
S/W DRAM Over 4G Remapping [Disabled]
H/W DRAM Over 4G Remapping [Disabled]
You can see above those TRC TRAS TRP and TRFC I mentioned earlier. If you take in account the timing formula....
tras + trp = trc
trc + 4 = trfc
... you can see that they are set wrong.
Bare in mind that first line on the screen. All settings were set on "AUTO", so it is obvious that the BIOS is setting it wrong and producing the errors I got. Same errors you get. You need …
This is gonna take some time to type... be patient.
You should copy-paste hijackthis log here and let me (and others) take a look.
It doesn't need to be a virus. Maybe your account on that PC doesn't have permission to change it. Maybe that pic you are trying to set is corrupted.... but first, hijackthis log would do.
I had that message on the hourly basis. It is memory compatibility issue. I have GEIL and it is power-hungry RAM.
One or the combination of these things should help you:
- Manually set memory timings. There is a formula I posted once here that I got confirmed that it is valid by AMD ppl
tras + trp = trc
trc + 4 = trfc
Those acronyms should be adjustable in BIOS.
That is a must with GEIL RAM.
- Increase RAM voltage. Go to the max. If you have GEIL, or any other that has aluminum heatsink, there is no need to worry about overheating. You can only gain stability.
- If you OCed your PC, reduce the speed or increase the voltage. You are on the edge of usable.
There are other possible causes, but those above are 99% of the cases.
Mainboard Model 775i65G.
It is AGP x8.
That quiet click came from monitor. That happens if the mobo isn't powered correctly, assuming that your VGA is on-board. If it is AGP/PCI-E, try reseating it.
One other trick: clear CMOS. If you hear any beeps, post them in exact order. Also your mobo manufacturer and model would be of great importance here.
I had similar expiriance with one old machine. Turned out the the CD drive was fryed and kept the system from even making POST. After I unplugged it PC came back to life, minus CD drive.
I think that there are many more qualities in a person. I say all of them.
There's a law, atleast in Coatia, that prohibits unloyal competition. Google will never provide free or "free" service here.
Powermax to da people!
Glad to help.
If it comes to that, there will be a war, in a sense of hostile takeovers and such. They will rather buy Google shares and take over control to stop that free service than to go bankrupt for loosing all of clients.
Since you can recreate the problem, I suggest that you use the warranty. Get different brand if possible. That one is obviously not too compatible.
If it is protection issue, you should contact game manufacturer. There are updates for such stuff, usually discussed at the game manufacturer's site/forum. That is where you should take a look.
I suggest that you update mobo drivers, in case the issue lies with them.
For the burner firmware update, you should post exact model of your burner, and I'll tell you exactly what you need to download and run.
In that case I would "buy" dozens of phones on a daily basis.
Googling on the phone... I can do that (but I never do) without buying gadgets from Google. C'mon ppl, it is a search engine, not a fashion statement.
Running in PIO mode greatly impairs your DVD part of a burner. PIO mode is older and very limited in terms of data transfer rates, which makes burning DVDs very unreliable.
Your problem isn't solved, my friend.
It is either faulty burner, bad cable connection, faulty IDE controller/motherboard, burner firmware bug that needs updating, or bug in the protection software that needs updating.
You have dead CMOS battery. It is a removable coin-shaped lithium battery beneath the PCI slots.
You have problem with CD protection. Different games use different protection software. If you post the titles, I might be able to help.
BTW, it is not illegal for you, since you bought the titles, to use cracks for those titles. Hey mods, this is not advocating piracy.
I must say Commodore 64.. Without it, most of my childhood would be different.
I got mine free... doesn't get any cheaper than this. I got it from service provider. All I pay is monthly bill. Only bad thing for me is that I signed 2 year contract, so I am obliged to pay until feb 2008.
Apple and google will have to do something really radical to take over the market.
Here's my problem:
My PC eventually starts making optical drive related problems. Looks like ASPI layer issue, but it isn't. I have ASPI layer tools and utilities and they don't help. Nero has it's own ASPI layer, and reinstalling complete Nero (7.10) doesn't help. I am missing something here, and am opened for suggestions.
My current issue is with multissesion burning and DVD-rewritable erasing They are recognized as DVD ROMs in Nero, but bare in mind that the were correctly recognized before, as rewritable disks. Not Nero nor any other software can erase my rewritable disks. They have been burned once or twice max, so they are not burned too many times. I don't know if there is a time limit to those guys, but 1.5 years isn't long if you store them well.
I, also, burned one CD as multisessioned disc, but after wards it was shown as read-only. I didn't test it on other machine, so I am not certain if it is mis-recognized as read-only (probably is), or really is read-only. To tell you the truth, that isn't my concern here. I just want to know a way to fix this.
Only way to fix this, that I know of, is to start from scratch. Whole OS. Not an appealing thought.
I had similar problem before, only more serious. The registry entries regarding red-book service were somehow deleted. DVDs were recognized as CDs, video DVDs were not recognized as such, Audio CDs …
It is probbably not Nero issue, but burner issue. You should update your burner's firmware.
I don't think that Nokia, Sony-Errikson, Motorola, Vodafone and other phone companies and service providers will be too happy with it. I think that there is going to be a major war between current phone companies and phone-wannabees.
*forgot to mention*
I have Maxtor too, so I would know... and Maxtor has merged with Seagate, so their customer support is bit on the limited side.
Here's the ISO image you need. It is tricky to find it. There's also one exe for creating bootable floppy with the utility, so use whichever you find more convenient.
Look for PowerMax. Tool that erases HD completely. There is downloadable bootable ISO image. If that doesn't work, nothing will.
I thought that it was a site-based bug...

Notice the text going overboard.
The actual text is shown as bitmap. Probbably some bug in whatever software transforms text to bitmap.
That above is this in wrapped in a "tex" tag:

Same happens with IE and firefox.
Murphy's law of gravity I: possibility of slice of bread with jelly falling on the jelly side is proportional to the value of the carpet
Murphy's law of gravity II: dropped tool in the workshop will roll to the most inaccessible part of the workshop.
Addition to the Murphy's law of gravity II: it will hit your toes first.
Sounds like bad memory, overclocked CPU or lack of power.
