Two days ago I joined this supposedly popular forum hoping that my query would attract some input. Very disappointed that I haven't received any help whatsoever.

its not your fault mate nor that of daniweb, the bt voyager 190 is just a very badly designed modem, the best voyager modem would be the 205, which offers cat.5e ethernet and usb 1.1.

hi guys,

had a delivery at work earlier in the week, 3 of the new samsung blu-ray players, i tried it with a belin pure-av hdmi cable and a 42" HD LCD widescreen and the picture was amazing, it can also up-scale current dvds into near blu-ray quality - and the cost of all this technoism? a mere £999.99!!!!!

hi guys,

sorry i havnt been on in ages - new job is pretty cool but long hours lol

they sent to oxfordshire on thursday for a vista and office training day, i should think that most of it you guys know already, but i was genuinly impressed, things like bitlocker, windows defender 07 to name a few are similar to products or software already out there and being used. windows ready boost had to be one of greatest improvements in vista, it allows you to insert a usb mass storage device (or any other flash memory device) and then use it as virtual memory, i.e if you had a 2gb flash drive, you could either use the 2048mb as virtual memory or partion it so x amount of mb's is for storage the rest is virtual ram.

using xbox 360's with a fairly powerful vista computer (in this case a hp pavillion 3.6ghz 2048mb ram) you can stream 3 films at a time, films are stored on the pavilion but played on the xbox - wirelessly, you can even do it with the same film, with vista your animal of a desktop pc becomes your home server, to the extent of running your home.

one of the laptops they had vista running on was a top of the range hp, we have a few of these at work, and with xp there boot-up times are dreadful compared to my acer which has half the ram, however …

right, frind of mine brought their compaq evo n800v laptop round running windows xp pro, said it couldnt play dvd's, whenever you play a dvd it has audio but no video, whereas on others it says it couldnt play the file due to copyright protection problem (all dvds were genuine!), upgraded to mp10, same problems, advice from wmp10 minisite said to change screen res to the lowest and 16bit colour, same prob, and turn off video acceleration in media player, still same prob,

Hi i am new to daniweb.com, i was looking around this website and i saw that i needed to register. I am 17 years old and im from Gibraltar, i am studying French Spanish and Computing. I am hoping that i could learn a lot from other members as at the moment i really need it, as this summer i got my A.S results and the only subject that i failed was Computing which rlly pissed me off as that was the subject that i rlly wanted to pass the most

This year i have been allowed to do A.S and A.2 computing with French and Spanish, but this time i am hoping that i can get help to pass Computing.

Well the homework i have been given was to design and make a program that would convert binary code into a denary integer also backwards from denary to binary code.

I have done a bit of research through the internet, and i have seen some simple programs just by using text boxes and buttons to convert. But atm i do not know much about programming as i am a begginer, if anyone has any free time or have anything that could help me do my homework plz

Thanks ;)

hi mate, and welcome to daniweb! you'll learn plenty and more from here, as a hint you shouldn't really post your email address on the net openly as spam bots tend to search web pages for them. if …

you own a bowling alley? - awesome

Not as funny as today though, i was out and my dad decided he wanted to move his pc upstairs, away from the switch but he knows nothing about networks so he went to townand baught a wifi card for it and paid £80 quid to have the guy install and configure the network for him.

This guy about had a heart attack when he came the next day when he came and saw our network. And i quote:

"wheres the pc"
"upstairs"
"wheres the router and whats the passwords"
"downstairs, in the rack, user root, password toor"
(he about died when he saw my openbsd rackie)
"uhh... wheres the xp?"
"in the bin"
"what"
"it doesnt run xp"
"but it has to"
"-sigh-"
"it runs linux - look, can you do it or not"

The guy practically ran away - must of been about 17 and had probably never seen a real, secured network in his life

i love salesguys like that (not litterally of course  ) you can eat them for breakfast lol, had to explain to a sales guy in the link other day the difference between the version of bluetooth and class of bluetooth (in his defence he looked about 12) you can have soooo much fun though! :cheesy:

you'll have to post some pics of this bowling alley though dani! :cheesy:

I just built my first pc. It was quite fun. I used an AMD 4200+, 1gb of Patriot ram, bfg 7600gt oc, western digital caviar 250gb sata drive, some ide drive from an HP, and I used an X-Fi for my sound card.

Hope you find what you want and everything goes well. I can't suggest any stores as it seems you are in Europe and I live in the US so shipping would probably negate any savings achieved at stores here.

not bad for your first build! :cheesy:

I was looking onto this site, and noticed that there was an audio file of a UFO talking. I tried to translate what this guy was saying, which was this:
“So Charlie finally broke up with me. And she said that her parents would never let her marry somebody from another plant, and I’m like ‘Come On, man!’ I mean she’s pretty, she’s bright. It’s not like I have seven noses or anything.”
Do you guys know if I translated this correctly, because it’s really hard to understand this dude.

weird, although i think he says `planet`not plant, but i think running it through something like wavepad would reveal all, as the audio file has just been slowed down, but speeding it up a little it would be far easier to understand
