Hmm too much of these things makes me uneasy. We should pray to god that we are thankful as we are on the brighter side. Whats the point of the technology which doesnt benefit one and all ( i just wanted to post the image of famine in Sudan but... )

Wish god were revert everything back to primitive, no wars, no burning babies, no hate, no poverty.... *sniff*

wow thats kinda deep mate;

that bit in i-robot about ghosts in programs, and bits of code creating unexpected behavior, isnt to far from now, what if one day the code we used was so advanced that a slight mis-type could result in `sunny` taking over, i wonder what it'll all be like in 50 yrs time?

yeh very good point about the Great North Run! I think that Richard himself is also behind the campaign to keep Top Gear on the air!
Personally I don't think Top Gear shouild be stopped because although some people might say 'oh its dangerous' but its also very imformative as a programe.

although i shouldnt thing many caravans will be keen for the new series to start

It seems only yesterday I used to believe
there was nothing under my skin but light.
If you cut me I could shine.
But now when I fall upon the sidewalks of life,
I skin my knees. I bleed.

Mankind will rue the day the whole AI project is done... (hint: don't give robots emotion, nor logical reasoning if you want them to be yur slaves)

In our media...
"Teh Matricks"
"I, Robot"

...and my upcoming production:
"LOL, Prompt Segway™(please don't sue me) Takeover of Humanity in Two Days"

lmao, you can learn all you need to know about defending mankind from weird freaky robots from AI and i-robot, although we're not to far off of that, i mean we have toys that can learn, robots that can climb stairs and walk - by themselves, forget usr i think it'll be honda that has us all as slaves, in their forecorts washings new accords ready for our robot masters  (or is that too far fetched and twisted?)

I have two computers: a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop with wireless capability, and an old Gateway desktop. Both are running Windows XP. I have a Linksys cable modem connected to a Linksys WRT54G router which is connected to the desktop PC.

This setup was working fine, and Internet connectivity was trouble-free until one day I was not able to access the Internet on either the desktop or the laptop. I AM able to access the Internet on the desktop if I connect directly to the cable modem, so I know my cable connection is ok. On the laptop, I cannot connect to the Internet even when I connect directly to the cable modem. The error message on the desktop is "Limited or no connectivity" when I try to connect through the router. The laptop is not giving me an error message: getting a strong signal from the router, and says network adapter is fine.

I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting the connections with no results, linksys call center was no help. I purchased a new router, a Netgear WGR614, but still got the same results, so I'm back to using the linksys. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers on the laptop to no avail.

Don't know what else to try -baffled by the problems with both computers when the router seems to be working fine. Any ideas?

not long now before all this technology comes aloive and takes over mankind eh? hehe anyways.. i guess i'm not as impressed in technology as i am about how people managed to live without it before it existed. It really has changed the way we look at life.

little things like sending a quick text to see what time your meeting up at the club, or doing a quick online shopping trip, before all this things must have taken ages, the washing for instance would take a good day, washing up took a while, yet where i work our new dishwasher does a full cycle in 45 seconds lol, everything we look at now has been affected or changed by technology, some good some bad, i.e speed cameras and capped bandwidth

hi mate, welcome to daniweb! have you tried installing it all without the disk, as often these cause a conflict between different brands, you can usually set-up a router via its ip address, found out by, opening up the command prompt, then typing in `ipconfig` the address next to default gateway is the address of your router, when you say it loses it after 30 seconds, do you mean the connection to the internet or the wireless network? as this could help determine where the fault lies.

hi mate, firstly tft is what they are (thin film transistors) tfts are usually more expensive than standard lcd's as each pixel is controlled by 1 to 4 transistors, tft's are often called active matrix lcd's, crystal bright is a bit light sonys black onyx, they have various propertys, some provide clear veiwing even in direct sunlight, and are designed for all round better veiwing. a standard lcd will be fine for normal computing unless you need hi-res, and lastly widescreen; just as you get widescreen tv's you can also get widescreen monitors, better for watching films etc.

openoffice is basically ms office but free. It's an amazing piece of software. Back to the point. Linux and unix for servers.

so what would you use windows for? and surely you wouldnt have enough admins trained up in linux to maintain all your linux and unix servers?

Good points both:

How many? More than 4 I would say, otherwise it only takes a couple of no-shows and the whole thing is ruined.

Where? Yep, depends on the numbers. Over 6 and under 10 would seem to be best suited to a restaurant setting, over 10 a pub/club/private room with a bar or similar.

sounds good, do we know how many are keen to go yet?

WI-Fi is actually good unless some illegitimate hotel, for enjoying the status of Wi-Fi offers it or try to do so but can't go long and ultimately the technology bears the brunt of not being stable or not being effective.
Go to a legacy university and ffind its use man!

its surprising how many small businesses don't have proper security on their wireless networks, for example where i work now (i wont name and shame them in the shame post lol) they have an epos system, office computers, handling payroll etc, reception computers, and a open hotspot on the same router! it amazed me how much sensitive data i was able to view without any hacking methods with just the laptop in my lunch hour, now anyone who had a wi-fi device could in effect screw-up the till system, view confidential files, one day they'll all learn
