P.S. When I go into Allshare, nothing is listed, in fact I can't see that the PC knows there's a TV in the next room.

It's taken me a few days to respond to your suggestions because I've been researching, trying to understand what the bleep I'm doing. As far as I can tell, my tv is connected to the internet because I can access email and Facebook. The 'Help' center has a video, "How to connect to a wireless network". The info contained therein is to go to the control panel, click wireless connections and choose from a list. I didn't have to choose because the first one on the list (Telus 4719) read, "connected". Well that's all fine and dandy, but I already knew my PC is connected.
I don't want to bore you with all the information that's rattling around in my head right now (it would start to resemble a short story). I want to thank you for your help but I'm ready to give up and buy a dvd player I can hook up to my TV.

P.S. Thank you very much for your help.

When you say, "connect the computer using the video out connection" do you mean connect it with an ethernet cable? I don't think I could do this as both devices are in opposite areas of the house. But could I connect them wirelessly?

I'm not sure if I'm writing this in the correct forum, but, here goes. I have Windows 7 Home Premium on a Dell Inspiron ONE_2020 4.00 GB RAM, 64-bit Operating System and I would like to play DVD's on my PC and view them on my Smart TV (I don't have a regular DVD player). The TV is a Samsung Smart series 5, model UN40EH5300.
I've done a bit of research and some info advises to download a media sharing service called, "Allshare". I've also read that there's a handy-dandy button on the Samsung TV remote called, "Smart Hub" which, when pressed will allow me to access The Web, Apps, etc but I've got Telus Optic TV (and the corresponding remote) and I can't find the Samsung remote anywhere. And I can't find the "Smart Hub" using the Telus remote.
Can anyone help me with this? (Well, you said you missed me, so...I'm back!
Thanks for listening,
Pamela

Yes, that worked, thank you very much. I was beginning to lose hope because when I researched this error message I found one article that indicated there was no way to fix it (so get used to it). But I knew if anyone could solve it, I'd find them at DaniWeb.

Well, I'm not sure if this is what you meant, but I tried start - run - services.msc and I set the print spool to manual but then it wouldn't print at all and I still got the message when I re-started. (I couldn't see anything else in the services that looked "printer-related".

Hello,
I've had this problem before but the solution (removing and then re-installing my printer and driver) isn't working this time. When I start up, I get the message: "Error in C:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\DLCJtime.dll Missing entry:RunDLLEntry". My printer still prints, but before it does, it informs me that I'm missing a colour ink cartridge (which I'm not....it's just empty and my black & white cartridge does the job) so if I hit continue, it prints.
Can anyone shed some light on this? (And no, I haven't been messing with the drivers or other hardware except to uninstall and install after getting the error message; that's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
Thanks for listening.

Only about 1/4 of my screen is taken up with the desktop background picture and the rest is white. It doesn't change if I center, stretch or tile it either and I have no idea what I might have done to deserve this. Everything seems to be working fine (windows xp professional) but I'd like to get a whole picture on there if I could. Can someone please help me with this?

I'm using Windows XP Professional "Add/Remove Programs" and I'm trying to remove a program called Revo Uninstaller. However, I keep getting the message, File"C:\Program Files\VS Revo Group\Revo Uninstaller Pro\unins000.dat" does not exist. Cannot uninstall. I've gone into regedit and looked for any traces of it there but can't find any. Does anyone know what I should do?
Thank you

Hi, I've just discovered torrents. After many hours of trying, I was finally successful in downloading a movie and my ultimate goal is to save it on a dvd. I've downloaded cd burning s/w but when I try to burn it, I get a message that there is no disc in the drive. (Someone told me that I need a special disc called minus R? or maybe it was minus W)
Anyway, I guess my real question is, how legal is all of this movie torrent stuff? Maybe I shouldn't even be trying to download (upload?) movies. (I'm afraid I'm a bit naive about some things.) I've come across some web sites that insist everything's on the up and up, but maybe they protest too much?
Finally, I'd just like to add that my motivation to learn this isn't just because I'm too cheap to buy the dvd. I just love learning about the internet and all it has to offer.

You could try uninstalling/reinstalling your printer and its driver/associated software.
Did you mess with your printer setup lately to cause this error?Cheers :)

Thank you very much, it worked! You made my day

Hello,
I'm running windows xp professional and just recently I've been getting this error message when I log on: Error in C:\Windows System 32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\3\DLCJtime.dll\Missing entry:RunDLLEntry. It doesn't seem to affect anything but what should I do to get rid of this?
Thank you for any help

Thank you for your help. I had a friend look at my system some time ago and he said that he added some memory and I'm wondering if that's how I ended up with unmatched chips. Anyway, I'll take your advice and get a matched set.
Cheers, and Happy New Year!

I downloaded a system information program - SIW which I have attached to this post. All the components of my computer are listed in the left pane and when one of them is highlighted, the details are listed in the right pane. When I look at the information regarding memory, it shows that "wrong values reported by BIOS" and naturally, this has me worried. How can I fix it so that the "right values are reported by BIOS"?
Can someone help me with this please?
Thank you

run it again and check off these ,reboot ,then try deleting folder ,.
you seem to a few toolbars installed ,most are not neededalso download and run ,malwarebytes ,after scan view what it finds if any and delete all .
www.malwarebytes.com
I did as per above and both folders are now gone (Conduit & Elf). Thank you very much.
I'd just like to add that, before you wrote back, I was roaming around cyberspace and clicked on "My Computer" then "C" then "Program Files" and found both folders "Conduit" and "Elf". They both contained folders of their own and I figured the reason I couldn't delete them was because I had to delete these sub-folders first. Which I did. Was that wrong? or is it just another way of doing things.
Thanks again

Hi, and welcome to TechTalk.
Perhaps the first thing you should do is have a good read of the information contained in our FAQ section:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/faq.php?
There you will find:
Forum Rules and policies, Webmaster Information, Privacy policy.
User Maintenance, General forum usage, Reading and posting messages. There is quite a lot of information contained in the articles you will find at those links, and I'm sure that it will be enough to answer most of your initial queries about using this Forum.
When you've come to grips with all that, you might want to head into the 'Control Panel' for your user account to see if you'd like to make some changes to the way you have the Forum working for you. There are a range of Settings available to change the way your posts display, and to edit your personal account details.
Most importantly, if you click on the 'Edit options' menu item, you can alter the way the forum works for you. Of particular relevence are settings to change the way you are notified about new posts in topics you've posted in. Your default setting is to inform you of new posts as a weekly summary via email. You can change that to instant notification if you like, so that you are informed immediately if someone has answered your question.
Also, there is the option to alter the interface for the message editor. You can set it to a text …

I couldn't see anything relating to Elf in any startup programs. When I go to the directory c:\program files\elf and when I open the Elf folder, there are several files which I was going to attach but I don't see a link for attachments. One of the files in the Elf folder was one called "Conduit" and it too can't be deleted
Why can't I attach anything to this post? I should know my way around here by now but it still confuses me. Sorry if I've done something wrong.
Bye

Hi,
I'm using windows xp professional and I'm trying to uninstall Elf 1.15 but when I try to delete the folder from C;My Computer\Program Files\Elf 1.15 I'm given this error message Cannot delete prxtbElf0.dll: Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use.
I'm trying to learn the best way to get rid of files/programs or parts of files/programs that aren't covered by "Add/remove programs" in the control panel. In this case I went to C drive, my computer, program files, elf
Thank you

I figured out what happened. I had tried to send an e-mail a few days ago with a very large attachment which wouldn't go through. It was sent to my outbox and every time I tried to send another e-mail, Outlook Express would try to send this large one in my outbox first. So, it wouldn't go through and it blocked any other e-mails from going through as well.
Thanks to all
jmrpjb 0 Light Poster
i still maintain that the file you were trying to attach was to large. The error message you posted even tells you this:
There is nothing you can do on your local computer to change the size of the file the server will except. Email error messages are pretty straight forward and this one is a regularly seen error. Either the email server that you transmit your email through or the one at the other end that holds the message till the recipient retrieves it, has a limit to the size of a file you can attach.
I've got some more info. I've been reading all I can on outlook error messages and came to a site that had me testing my smtp server connection using telnet, which I tried but the connection failed. So that's where I am now. Trying to figure out how to connect to my smtp server

Hello,
Your problem is that the file you are trying to attach to the email is too large. Most email servers limit the size of an attachment to less than 10MB.
No, I don't think that's it because it won't send any e-mails now, properly. I sent one to myself using my other address and it indicated that it had been sent but without the attachment. Then when I looked at the received message, it indicated an attachment. But when I opened it (I've tried both videos & photos) it only showed the first frame and all the others were icons.
Does this have something to do with the program that opens videos and photos?
I don't know if you need this, but I've attached some system info just in case.
Thank you very much for your time

I did some registry tweaks and must have done something wrong because when I try to send an e-mail with an attachment (video) I get this:
The message could not be sent because its size exceeded the server's limit. You can use the option, located in Tools | Accounts | Properties | Advanced, to break messages into smaller parts. Subject 'Roxy "The Baddest Cat In The West"', Account: 'pop.telus.net', Server: 'smtp.telus.net', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '552 5.2.3 DATA size exceeds maximum permitted', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 552, Error Number: 0x800CCC6D1 Click the Start button, then RUN.
I've used Easy Cleaner to clean the registry but the problem still exists.
Can someone please help me?

Hi,
Thanks to everyone who helped me with this and, I've decided to leave well enough alone.

Driver updating, yet another example of how people allow computers to take over their lives. If everything is working as you would like it/expect it, Device Manager reports no problems, and there is no amazing, new feature offered by an update then a driver update will not necessarily deliver anything. Check the update changelog - many updates will not apply to your situation. An example might be a change to ensure compatibility with some new widget that your sys doesn't boast, or to fix an obscure chance error that you've never experienced.
Sure, when you buy a piece of kit the driver software that comes with it may be a bit ropy.... a rush job just to get the hardware on the shelves [I'm a cynic] and an update might get more from the thing, but often, no.
:-/[/I][/B]One has to be a cynic in this environment. Idealism is what precedes experience; cynicism is what follows. David T. Wolf ( 1943 - ). What follows cynicism? Cause that's where I'm headed. I mean why do the bad guys want to give everyone viruses? It's not like they gain anything by doing this, right? But I digress. I appreciate your comments because I was just asking myself, "why are you doing all this when everything is working as I "would like it/expect it" to? I guess my only answer (well my only good answer) is that I'm learning more and more. I just hope I don't blow up my computer …

What 'free' driver scan are you doing? Chances are that it is giving you false information.
The manufacturer by the way, will not be Microsoft.
What is your motherboard make and exact model?
If you do not know, there are a few ways you can get it.
Take a look at it physically, or download a software program that will read the info, then display it for you.
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html
Depending on the age of the motherboard, Everest free may be able to tell you;
http://majorgeeks.com/download4181.html
Once you have the information, post it back here.
Hi, thanks for getting back to me so quickly; I can't say enough good things about Daniweb. I got this info from a help manual I mentioned in one of my previous posts, TGTC Tweakersguide Tweaking Companion which I'm finding very helpful. I downloaded SIW which contains all my system info and have attached it to this post. (This took me about an hour but I now know how to "zip" a file.)
So, hope this tells you what you need to know and I'll look forward to your reply.
Pam
This attachment is potentially unsafe to open. It may be an executable that is capable of making changes to your file system, or it may require specific software to open. Use caution and only open this attachment if you are comfortable working with zip files.

I am trying to update my drivers and seem to be going in circles. (By the way, all of my hardware is working.) I read that the best place to download drivers is the manufacturer's website but when I go there (Microsoft) I keep winding up on sites that offer me a free driver scan, that tell me I have several outdated, very old drivers. (So I did some research and thought I went through the process of updating any drivers that I had been told were old.
1. Go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager, and double click on the device to update.
2. Go to the Driver tab and click the 'Update Driver' button.
3. Select 'Install from a list or specific location' then click Next.
4. Select 'Don't search, I will choose the driver to install'
5. Click the 'Have Disk' button.
6. Click on the Browse button and go to the directory where you placed the latest drivers.
7. Highlight the relevant driver file (usually an .INF file) and click Next to install.
8. Reboot your system if prompted and upon reboot the device should be using the latest drivers. You can check this by checking the driver tab in device manager again (Steps 1 & 2 abov
But when I get another "free" driver scan, it seems, I still have ancient drivers.
Am I just totally lost in cyberspace? Did I do anything right? You see, I'm …

Thanks to everyone for all their good advice. I will be very cautious when tweaking but I'm finding this guide (Tweakingguide Tweaking Companion) very useful as a "user's manual" as it's filled with everything you always wanted to know about Windows XP.

In an effort to teach myself more about my computer I have come across and downloaded The Tweakguides Tweaking Companion and it seems to be a very good source of information. I guess I'm just asking for confirmation from you guys (the experts) if I'm on the right track. Is it something I can befefit from?

I received an e-mail which stated my thread had been answered but when I click the link, I don't see an answer. However, I kept trying different things to open the e-mail attachment and finally found that by downloading Microsoft PhotoShop I was able to do it. So I thank everyone who spent time on this and I'll mark this thread as "solved".

I have windows xp professional Celeron CPU 2.53 GHz 1.24 GB RAM and I am trying to open some photos which came in an attachment to one of my e-mails. However, I get the message "this file does not have a program associated with it to perform this action. Create an association in control panel folder options." I opened folder options in the control panel (please see sttachment) but I'm not sure what to do now. Can somebody help me? Thank you

Thanks for the info. It just seems too good to be true; to have access to all that music, for free!

I just downloaded Imesh who state one can download free music legally. I hope this is true because I tried one and it seems to work beautifully

Hello,
I have windows xp professional, cpu 2.53 GHz, 2.53 GHz, 1.24 GB ram. I am having a heck of a time trying to download music to my pc. I have several playlists on utube but I'm unable to transfer them to windows media player. I also thought I could visit an internet radio site and copy music from there but, no. I've just now downloaded itunes from where I'm going to give it a try. Is there an easy method of acquiring music, ie. downloading music for dummies or do I have to actually purchase cd's etc.?
By the way, I tried video piggy to transfer utube videos to my pc but I must have done something wrong because I kept getting an error message (10,000)
Can anyone out there help?
Thank you
Pam

Thank you EVERYONE for all your help. Alas, since there's no way for me to get rid of the original trouble-maker, MyWebsearch I'll have to be more careful when downloading programs. Some of them can be pretty sneaky and once they're there, they're like bad guests (they won't leave!) So, thanks again, and I'll mark this thread as solved.

Thank you both for getting back to me so quickly, but I'm still a little confused. I will remove the items detected by malwarebytes but my concern is how those items got there in the first place. There seems to be a program or programs called MyWebsearch and/or Funwebproducts lurking somewhere in my computer which is producing these threats (adware/malware). So I'd like to get to the root of the problem, ie find and remove MyWebsearch and/or Funwebproducts.
However, it is not listed in add/remove programs in my control panel and I don't know how to find it. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you

I have Windows XP Professional. I understand that one should have just one anti-virus program. I have discovered 2 very good (free) programs, SUPER Antispyware and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which have detected and removed/quarantined spyware and malware on my computer. Can I leave them on or will they conflict with my anti-virus software?
Also, Malwarebytes detected many items described as follows:
Vendor: Adware MyWebsearch
Category: File or Folder
Item: c:\program files\mywebsearch\bar\History
and
Vendor: Adware MyWebsearch
Category: File or Folder
Item: c:\program files\funwebproducts\screensaver\Images
This makes me want to remove "MyWebsearch" and "funwebproducts" from my computer but they aren't listed in add/remove programs in the control panel. Can someone tell me, should I get rid of them and if so, where can I find them?
Thank you,
Pamela

First things first, you can feel free to ask your questions here at DaniWeb without worrying about having to pay - this is a free IT support and discussion community, nobody charges you anything to provide all the help and advice you need.
As for the rankings you mention, well every time you post something to DaniWeb members of the community have the opportunity to either up or down vote your posting depending on whether they found it useful, interesting or perhaps confusing or in breach of the rules. Most of the time, most members will not vote on postings at all, but if you've contributed something particularly worthy people may be inclined to reward your effort with an up vote and possibly some reputation points which are just a further method of showing gratitude.
The more you post and the greater your reputation score becomes, so the more power you have to influence the reputation of others.

How in the world did I manage to get here? in your post?? Oooohh there's sooo much I don't know!
I just wanted to drop a quick "thanks" for responding to my post so quickly. When I first got a glimpse of all those 0's next to my name I felt I'd been wisked back to highschool and handing in tests on which I was getting nothing but zero's. (Not that that ever happened, you understand)
I'd like to add that I am really impressed with …

Can someone please tell me what this is all about? (Please see the list below.) I have to say I was a little surprised to see myself being judged and graded like this. I don't know very much about computers and am just here to learn so I'm probably doing something wrong right now.
I did try to help though. As soon as I received the e-mail about Google's faux pas I asked about a few things at the top of my list. (I've got a million questions but have been hesitant to post them because I can't really pay.)
Anyway, I know I've got a lot to learn and I'd like to start with what these rankings mean.
Thank you

After a quick google, it doesn't look like it's capable of that!
Thank you for your timely response. Well, no wonder I couldn't do it!

I've downloaded PhotoScape and I want to know how to put the head of one picture onto the body of another picture. They just tell you how to combine a bunch of pics into one (which I still can't seem to do, but that's another post). Does anyone out there know how to do this (the former, not the latter)?
Thank you for your time

I became acquainted with cyberspace about 1 year ago (yes, for the first time) and I may be using the term "intermediate" a little losely but that's my story and ...
I've broused and broused for free (I'm cheap) tutorials on how to use windows and the internet and there's lots of stuff for beginners but I'm past the "personalize your desktop" phase. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a good tutorial for intermediate users. I should add it's XP professional.
I hope I'm not sounding too cheap but I'm on a very fixed income. Anyway, thank you for your time and you'll probably be hearing from me again soon, because if I don't find a tutorial soon, I'll be directing all of my questions to you, lol.

Thank you very much for your help. I did a system restore going back to a time before I downloaded DriverCure and this seems to have done the trick. Again, thanks

Hello,
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly but unfortunately, ccleaner didn't solve the problem. I don't understand this because I can't seem to find "DriverCure" anywhere. I downloaded a program called "revounstaller" which is supposed to clean up all remnants of programs and I wasn't anywhere to be seen.
Also, it reads that there are 4 replies to my problem "Error Messaage" but I can only see this one (the ccleaner answer). Please help me to discover what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you very much

I have Windows xp professional celeron cpu 2.53 Ghz and 1.24 GB ram and whenever I start up I get the attached error message. (I don't know if the attachment worked) but basically it reads: DriverCure failed to start, please reinstall the application. But I can't find the program in "add & remove programs" nor can I see it when I run "regedt32". Therefore I can't remove it and I don't want to re-install it. Can someone help?
Thank you

Hi, this is me. I am new to Daniweb and new to just about all things "cyber"...but I'm learning. Sometimes it seems that whatever can go wrong, does (with me) so you may be hearing from me quite a lot.
Bye for now
