I have been downloading old kid's readio stories and trying to burn them onto mp3 CDs for my daughter. The problem is that when she plays the CDs on the mp3 CD player in her room the tracks are not in order. I have edited the meta-data and labeld every track with the same artist and album as well as made sure that the CD # of # fields were populated. Any ideas on what could be causing this and or how I might be able to fix the problem?

Hello, I've been having a lot of trouble with collision detection recently. I'm attempting to make a 2D platformer. All I need is rectangle-on-rectangle collision detection, and then to respond on collision by moving the two rectangles involved in opposite directions. Thanks in advance.

I just got G5 PPC Mac the user who gave it to me claims that it "died during an update. It will not boot from the CD. It was running 10.5 and I have the disk. Using the C key with 2 keyboards. I booted into the open firmware using opt-cmd--o-f . Open firmware is requiring a password. So I pulled the battery on the motherboard and left it unplugged for a few minutes. No luck still wants’ a password. Dropped in more ram and reset the pram 3X. It still wants a password. I have asked the user if …

Hello! My issue is that I have to disc readers. One DVD RW and the other a CD RW. I have to slots for them, I plugged them both in, power cables and connector cables. Howeverm the computer only reads that there is a CD RW drive in it. I switched around the Master, Slave, Cable Select configuration, however, no cigar. Any suggestions as to the configuration. (I finally got a half-solution by only plugging in the DVD-ROM drive, which is the one I most need. However, I'd like to be able to use both!) Thanks in advance!

Hello, Over the past couple of days, I've been struggling with getting collision detection to work for my game, a 2D sidescrolling platformer, made with SFML 2. This is example code using my most recent method of collision detection, although it has some flaws: // main.h #ifndef MAIN_H #define MAIN_H #include <SFML/Graphics.hpp> #include <iostream> extern sf::RenderWindow mainWin; extern sf::Sprite player; extern sf::Sprite platform[3]; extern sf::Texture tPlayer, tPlatform1, tPlatform2; extern sf::Clock frameClock; extern sf::Vector2f velocity; extern bool falling; enum DIRECTION { NORTH, EAST, SOUTH, WEST, NONE }; void getInput(); void update(); DIRECTION collisionDetection(sf::FloatRect source, sf::FloatRect collide); #endif // MAIN_H // main.cpp …

Hello, I have developed an app. I want to protect this app, just like the one where we install some software by entering CD-key/Serial key. But I m not understanding how to do it? I want the serial key to be based on some formulation by MAC address! My Case: I will give my app to a user. Then, a form will display MAC Address(I got this part) and textbox - where user will enter the key after entering the correct key the app will work. The key must be different for different machine (since the mac will be different). …

Hello, I'm fairly new to programming, and I'm not exactly sure how to do line-rect collision detection. If it helps, I'm using SFML 2. Can someone explain to me how I would go about coding line-rect collision detection? Thanks in advance.

Hi Although my PC detects my disc drives and can play from them when I try to write to the RW drive I get a message "No disc detected". I am using Roxio Creator LE Dell Edition. I have cleaned the laser carefully using methylated spirits and a surgically clean cotton bud. The Dell drive is the oringinal circa 2006. I might just as well have binned the crive and bought a new one rather than bother to clean it. But is something that I could do to check the drive before scapping it? Thanks Geoff

Hello, I would like your opinion on my collision detection & jumping code. Is it efficient enough to be used in a full-blown game? Any ideas on how I could improve the efficiency of the code? Any bugs? Please reply with (constructive) criticism, comments & suggestions. Link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/56274235/Working%20Collision%20Detection%20%26%20Jump.zip Thank you for your time.

Can someone give me some resources (books, online tutorials, etc.) on algorithms for 2D collision detection? I've searched a little, and all the ones I can find are for 3D collision detection. Thanks in advance. EDIT: Just to clarify, I know how to do collision detection, just not efficiently.

Hello everyone. I'm trying to code the cd shell command in c. I used chdir function to code it but the problem is that when I execute the program on the terminal it doesn't change the directory. I kept a series printfs and conditions to test if it changes, though it does change, I don't see it on the terminal. Here's my code:
#include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <errno.h> int main( int argc, char **argv[] ) { int result = 0; if (argc > 2) { printf("%s: Too many operands \nUsage: %s <pathname>\n", (char *) argv[0], (char *) …

I'm currently running on a Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 1 and my CD-Drive doesn't seem to close itself. It will open on it's own, most of the time, but when it does do that it won't close itself. But that's not my main concern. My main concern is how can I get to my Disc I'm trying to play (Warcraft 3) if it won't read it? Do I have to take it into a local store such as Best Buy or what not? Thanks in advance! :)

Best of the weekend to everyone! This 5 year old iBook (256 MB RAM, 600 MHz CPU, OSX 10.4) has been faithfully operating until recently. It "locked up" and was allowed to shut down normally (but very slowly). Now when attempting to start the machine, it slowly brings up the BIOS splash page (gray background). On pressing "C" on startup it shows the folder with a happy face alternating with "?". It then eventually shows a circle with a diagonal line on the screen and goes no further. I am unable to get it to access either the Tiger operating …

Ok... i am trying to repair a friends computer (Intel Celeron 2.8Ghz 1GB Ram - custom build from some computer shop) initially the problem was that it no longer turned on... so i replaced the power supply. The computer now turns on, however it does not boot from the hard drive (Maxtor 80GB) or the CD drive (Lite-On cd-rw SOH). I have successfully installed windows on the hard drive from my own computer as a slave and then transferred the hard drive back over to my friends PC and tried just booting windows off it that way as the master, …

Hi, I need to "force" a CD Drive to "read " an empty CD. e.g. make the laser move across the the disc's surface while it is spinning as if it was reading data. Usually when a blank CD is inserted the Drive starts reading but then stop right away if the disc is empty. Would it be possible by modifying the drive and/or writing a Code to accomplish this task? Any ideas would be great!! Sam

My goal is to control the Speed of the Drive, and hopefully the radial position of the optical pickup head. I am still fairly new to this field, is something like that even possible ( I need to finish it in 2 months) Any help would be greatly appreciated! Sam

Hi folks, I'm creating a bootloader for my setup CD in NASM, and so far I've got the PVD (Primary Volume Descriptor) stored in a buffer. Now I'm stuck, as I'm not sure exactly how the Directory Records .etc. are structured; how is the one-to-many relationship implemented .etc. as it looks like each Directory Record can only store one Directory/File, so I'm not sure how they all link together in a heirarchy. Could anybody provide me with a basic explaination into how it works, along with some sample code if possible? :confused: Thanks in advance, Lee.

It occurs to me that I've been talking a lot on this blog about data going missing here in the UK. I've given our Government and various people a hard time - if they cared what I said it'd hurt. I've said these things are managerial rather than technical. And I've had a nagging feeling that it might, just might, not be completely fair to blame the UK and just about nobody else. As a UK resident clearly I get the UK stories rather than the others. Until now.
