This thread asked when Google updates backlink data and whether that public PageRank number will move. Replies from , , and reflect the old toolbar-era view. For readers years later: the visible PageRank/backlink snapshots people watched are not a reliable, real-time signal anymore. Focus on signals you can control and verify rather than waiting for a public PR refresh.

Practical checks to run now:

  • Verify the site in Google Search Console and review the Links report for who links to your site and which pages they point to ().
  • Use the URL Inspection tool to confirm pages are crawled and indexed; request indexing for important updates.
  • Audit common blockers: robots.txt, meta noindex, rel="canonical" pointing elsewhere, redirect chains, or links that require login or are JavaScript-only.
  • Inspect linking pages for rel="nofollow" or other markers that prevent passing weight. Check server logs to confirm Googlebot has crawled those linking pages recently.

If links exist but rankings do not improve, investigate quality and relevance of those links, on-page content strength, and any manual actions in Search Console. Disavow files are rarely needed and only for clear spam when manual action or algorithmic harm is suspected. Long-term gains come from earning relevant editorial links, improving content and internal linking, and fixing crawl/index issues rather than watching a toolbar metric.

The next update isn't due until about the New Year. But I wouldn't worry about it. As soon as they find a new link to your pages they factor the PR into your pages' PR (and thus your results). You just can't see it until the next public update (and also won't see an improvement in rankings at that time).

Typically three or four times a year... but only google knows when for sure :)

Only Google knows...
Normally it updates 3-4 times a year.
I hope this time Santa may bring Christmas gifts as PR update....
