I have a Acer 3100 Aspire Notebook. w/ AMD Turion 64 x2, 512mg ram, XP-Pro Media Center SP-2. At present the system is all but dead.

Power-on OK
HDD & DVD appear ok
Getting power to USB ports
No boot screen
Keyboard dead

A few days ago I was hit by a backdoor virus. and believe this is the reason for my problem as it is a utility to tweak CP. I got the system back up one time and got rid of tha virus. After removing infected program II tried to restore my system to a point before installing the program. At this point the system locked and was forced to do a hard shutdown. My Acer notebook has never booted again.

I have re-seated memory and HDD Have swapped out HDD, removed battery and recycled power. <hold power buttin down 60 sec> and no luck there. I even powered up without HDD and got same results.

I want to know if I removing the CMOS battery would help? I can see the battery and have no problem trying, however it would be nice to have a case diagram for accssing the battery. <screws to access, etc>

Help is needed in a big way!
