ok well the old HDD died and so i went over to the local computer store, bought myself a new hdd and put it in. The bios doesn't recognize it and gives me the error of no HDD being found. Thinking that it could be, because there was no partition i put in the XP cd but windows also didn't find the Drive.

Any ideas?

Thanks guys

Is it too big?
How old is the laptop?

I don't believe it's too big. It fits in the OEM enclosure and fits right in the bay. It's a standard 2.5 Laptop HDD.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 9300 Not too old. Maybe 3 years max.

No,i mean capacity-wize

BIOSes have drive capacity limits. How many gigs is the old drive, and how many is the new one?

its 80 gb lol

the old one was probably around 40-60

60gb may have been the limit, whats the make and model of the lappy, ill check for you. Sometimes a BIOS update helps fix itif that is the case. However I do not reccomend a BIOS update unless you are sure that is the problem.
