A compact diagnostic checklist that complements the thread (references: , , , , , , ).

A few facts to use when narrowing the cause: an otherwise-active machine (power/drive activity or Windows LED) with a blank internal screen and occasional stripes most often falls into one of three buckets — software/driver, the internal display chain (panel/LVDS cable/inverter/backlight), or GPU/motherboard. The order below moves from least-invasive to more invasive so data can be saved early.

Recommended diagnostic sequence

  1. Quick resets and data safety — power down, remove AC and battery, hold power ~30s, then try AC-only boot. If possible, remove the HDD and copy critical files with a USB-to-SATA adapter before deeper work.
  2. External display test — attach an external monitor and toggle the output (Fn+F-key). External image present while internal remains blank points to the panel/cable/backlight path; both blank points toward driver or GPU/board. This expands on @Rik_’s suggestion.
  3. Software/drivers — when an image is available on any output, boot Safe Mode (F8) or a Windows PE/USB and uninstall the display adapter, then install the OEM driver for the machine’s Service Tag. Clean-removal tools (used in Safe Mode) can help remove corrupted driver remnants before reinstall. This answers @tyana’s question about fixing a corrupted driver.
  4. Hardware checks — a faint image visible under bright light indicates a backlight/inverter fault; visible stripes or intermittent images suggest a loose/damaged LVDS cable or failing GPU solder joints. Reseating the display cable at hinge and motherboard (document screw locations and use ESD precautions) is a low-cost next step; panel, inverter or board repair follows if reseating does not help.

Notes and cautions: opening the chassis can void warranty and risks ESD damage; document and photograph disassembly. If driver/unplug-reseat steps do not restore a stable image, professional board repair or motherboard replacement is commonly required for persistent stripe/artifact failures.

Does it show anything at all before it goes black?
Does it produce any beeps?

no beeps.
sometimes it shows some stripes... it loads the system but the screen is not displaying, when it loads i can see the green light of windows vista but nothing else.

Can you hook it up to an external monitor and see if that works?

fixed it... thanks
i opened the case!

What was the problem then?

i think the problem was with the drivers, display driver was corrupted!..

I have the same problem now. How do you fix the display driver ?

Did you change the LCD and motherboard?

Thanks
