Installed ECS Elitegroup Mobo with VIA PT800CE-A chipset and 3.0 ghz P4 CPU.
Sometimes , but not always, on startup I have to access the BIOS and manually search for the HDD. This can occur on cold starts and on restarts. Any clue as to why this happens?

you might want to plug the ide cable tightly. jsut an idea though

Which drive cable is the hard drive attached to? IDE0 or IDE1? Are there aother drives on the same cble? What type?

Do the drives have jumper sttings correctly configured?

IDE 0 (cable end). No 2nd drive connected, jumper per manufacturer. Odd part is that sometimes it boots okay and other time requires manual selection via CMOS.
