My computer blacks out randomly. The screen goes back and it acts almost like its in sleep mode. The hard drive seems to stop but the fans are still going? It does it at random times sometimes 10 sec after login sometimes 2 hours. It does it while im running diffrent programs as well. I really have no Idea what it could be. perhaps anything? If anyone could narrow it down then I could fix it instead of having to send it to a real tech or replace everything or replace part by part. I have mcaffe virus scan but have been unable to complete a scan since it takes like 2 hours and it always restarted before it was done. I ran hijack this though..

There are couple of things that can cause problems there.

One is called "PowerReg Scheduler V3"

Here are some comments on it:

It collects information for Leader Technologies, and thus it is classified as non-harmful spyware. However, it crashes Windows (BSOD) because of interferance to certain Hardware Drive devices, such as DSL modems & certain CD/DVD-RW.

Spybot said PowerReg is bad.(but it's not active[so i don't how bad it is])

can attempt to connect to internet and gather unknown info and can link you to an ad or displays pop ups

Other thing is that there is a hint of "Fakealert" trojan. Probably a leftover ("Shell=" line in your System.ini).

I suggest that you go here and download spyware doctor. It will get rid of all the spyware you collected.

This is not necessarly software-related problem. If the system sweep doesn't help, please post. (with new hijackthis log)

I have the same problem, I installed windows7 64bit recently and I got a new 3d card (ATI) and new RAM.

Dunno whats happening but it really pisses me off
