Just a quick question.

I've bought a SATA 2 harddrive with a SATA300 connection, speed 3Gb/s.

Will it work on my motherboard which has a SATA controller?

Apparently SATA 2 hard drive will not work in a SATA controller on the motherboard.

ThankS,

The SATA2 will work with the SATA controller, but it will only operate at the SATA speed of 1.5Gbps.

yes, it will just run at SATA 1 speed instead of SATA 2 speed. I have sata 1 with a sata 2 harddisk and it runs fine.

Is there anything i can do to make it run at its max speed of 3Gb/s.
What if i get a SATA2 controller card?

Also which setup is faster?

Setup 1 - A SATA drive (1.5Gb/s) and a SATA2 drive (3Gb/s) working in RAID mode(mirroring), both having to work at the lower speed of the two drives.

or

Setup 2 - A SATA2 drive working on its own through the use of a controller card at 3Gb/s.
