Hi Guys,
I have an Acer ASPIRE 3683WXMi, and recently the Keyboard just simply stopped working.
Funny enough, the On-Screen Keyboard is still working perfectly.

Please any clues for resolving this problem will be greatly appreciated.?

A compact, warranty-safe troubleshooting plan that builds on suggestions from and . Follow the checks in order so the problem is isolated without needless disassembly.

  • Reboot and test in firmware/setup: enter the BIOS/UEFI (often F2, Del or F12 at power-on) and try a few keys. If keys work there, the hardware path is intact and the fault is likely OS/driver related; if they do not, suspect a hardware or connection fault.
  • Use a powered USB keyboard before Windows starts. If an external works at boot but the internal does not, that points at the built-in keyboard or its ribbon/cable rather than Windows.
  • Boot from alternate media (Windows recovery or a Linux Live USB) to confirm whether the keyboard behaves the same outside the installed OS.
  • In Windows, open Device Manager (devmgmt.msc) -> Keyboards, uninstall any keyboard entries, then reboot so Windows redetects drivers. Also check Ease of Access/Filter Keys settings.
  • Quick physical checks: carefully clean with compressed air for debris and look for obvious liquid or key damage. Do not open the chassis if the machine is still under warranty. If comfortable and warranty has expired, reseating the keyboard ribbon is a common fix on many laptops—but leave that to an authorized technician while covered.
  • If the above isolate a hardware fault or are inconclusive, contact Acer support or an authorized service center and report whether the keyboard fails in BIOS and under alternate media; that speeds diagnostics.

and when you use a ps/2USB keyboard? does it work??

I have not used either of those, but, the "On Screen Keyboard" is working perfectly.

sure it is cos its intergrated both works independently. are you comfortable with laptops, have you opened you lappy before

Yes, I am comfortable with laptops, but I have not opened my own before. Infact, it is still under warranty.

good.cos what i was about to suggest was to open it and that would void the warranty.just take it back to your dealer and let them short it out
