I am asking a question which has been asked before, although the previous replies did not offer a solution in my case. How does one read the Firmware Hard Disk Serial Number in Windows (XP) by a user not willing to use C,C++,C# and other languages? The closest answer to my problem was given by 'digitalocksmith' on 8/25/06. Unfortunately the 'hardware id's' reveals only the name of the manufacture, in my case (Seagate) but not the serial number. Does his scheme always work or is it in some way limited by either Seagate or Microsoft?

If you are just looking for a program to help you find that information, a nice little freeware called 'HDDScan' provides a lot of information about your HD, as well as testing functions. I hope this helps.

Where do I find this program 'HDDScan'. Thanks!

You can download it from hddscan.com...
