I have Vista on my laptop and I am always having cd/dvd problems now. This is it this last week. I have talked to HP who had me check the regedit for upper and lowee filters and re-seat the drive. It worked for a few days. Now i am right back to it not working and I am getting upset. Mu hubby says just go buy a new cd.dvd, but i am not sure that is problem. Any help PLEASE.

Pull it out, get it's make and model number, then have a Google for a firmware update for it.

Well if reseating the drive fixed the problem temporarily it sounds like you have a connection problem. Try to reseat the drive again, if this fixes it, you have a dirty or defective piece of hardware. Check the metal connectors to see if they all have the same allignment. Also look for dirt or something to cause a bad connection like lint or dirt.
