Hi Guys,

I am having a tough time with this issue. I am trying to fill out my email address in order to activate trend micro but when the empty box pops up to fill out my email address, I am UNABLE to click in to the box to fill out the information. I have tried plugging in the mouse as opposed to using the laptop mouse and clicking in the box with that, but that doesn't work either. I am finding that is is happening on other applications as well. Any quick fixes for this?

Thanks in advance!

Short summary: correctly pointed at browser configuration as a likely cause, and reports the problem went away after correcting those settings. The thread is useful, but readers arriving later may want to know why a click into a text box can fail and what to try if a simple reset doesn't fit their situation.

Common causes to consider:

  • Browser script/add-on conflicts or toolbars that intercept clicks (can affect modal dialogs and activation pages).
  • Security software that injects UI or blocks scripting, including some antivirus/antimalware suites.
  • System-level input problems: touchpad/mouse drivers, a stuck accessibility option, or a corrupted user profile.
  • Background applications that steal or block window focus.

Practical troubleshooting workflow (ordered so you can stop when the problem is fixed):

  • Verify scope: try typing/clicking in Notepad or a form in another browser. If other apps are affected, focus on drivers/services; if only one browser, focus on that browser.
  • Test with alternate browsers or run Internet Explorer "No Add-ons" to see whether extensions are involved.
  • Use the Tab key to reach the field. If Tab works but clicking does not, look at mouse/touch drivers or software that captures mouse clicks.
  • Perform a clean boot (msconfig) to disable non-Microsoft startup items and reboot; re-enable items one at a time to isolate the culprit.
  • Create a new Windows user account to rule out profile corruption.
  • If a security product is suspected, temporarily disable or uninstall it for testing (reconnect protections afterward) and then reinstall or update it if it’s the cause.

Prevention and follow-up: keep browsers, input drivers, and security software up to date; avoid multiple overlapping toolbars or script blockers; and if an activation UI from a vendor keeps failing, check the vendor support for a known compatibility issue or provide them with a screenshot and exact steps.
