Hi!

I could play 18 Wheels of Steel: Haulin, and then I've deleted it. After a while I've installed it but I can't play it. I click on the icon but nothing happens. Can somebody help me?
Thanks a lot!

— a short, practical checklist to track down why an older PC game will not start, and some safe fixes that work for many 2000s-era titles.

  • Run the real game executable from its install folder (not just the desktop shortcut). Check Task Manager for any short-lived process and then look in Event Viewer -> Windows Logs -> Application for a faulting module or error code.
  • Right-click the EXE -> Properties -> Compatibility. Try "Run this program in compatibility mode" (Windows XP SP2/SP3) and check "Run this program as an administrator". Also try "Disable visual themes" / "Disable desktop composition".
  • Install legacy runtimes that older games require: DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010) for D3DX9 DLLs, and the common Visual C++ redistributables. Reboot after installing.
  • Update graphics drivers and temporarily disable overlays (Steam, FRAPS, etc.). If the game needs a CD, confirm the disc or a legitimate digital patch is present.
  • If nothing appears after these steps, note any exact error text or faulting DLL and search for that string; it points to the missing runtime or module.

If the game uses old copy‑protection (SafeDisc/SecuROM) it can be blocked on modern Windows; PCGamingWiki documents game-specific fixes and official patches. See the game page and runtime guidance for tested solutions:
