Please elaborate what you mean exactly by the word "update".

I think he means patch, or upgrade to Windows 8.
But I do agree, he is a little too breif :-/

update my win7 can only mean one thing ,update my win7 ,patch and upgrade ,mean patch and upgrade ,totally different than upgrage ,maybe OP will come back and tell us all what they really mean,lol

If it does mean that, then here's an answer:

Windows, actually should automatically update - when it is nescessery to patch, there will be an orange exclamation mark next to your shutdown button at the start menu. All you have to do is to shutdown, then turn on. Or restart. It should get updates while shutting down, and when it restarts is will apply those updates.
If you want to do it manually, then I guess:

Control Panel -> System and Security -> Windows Update

Is the right answer.
