I've been tyring to add a number of computers on a domain and make it a file server for a big organisation. I managed to add those on the same location with the server bt I couldn't add the ones from other branches. I turned off my firewall and also checked my file sharing options. If I ping on both machines(the server and the machine) they can see each other bt if I search on the computers on my network they do not see each other.
MAke sure the server is the DNS and/or WINS server for the remote domains. When a remote machine tries to join a domain, it relies heavily on the DNS for the domain. I've joined many remote machines to a domain over VPN and through routed networks. As long and you are using the DC's DNS for resolution, it whould work fine.
