unable to connect is it compatable to windows xp
thank you
Brief follow-ups to what and started — if the simple driver/discovery checks have already been tried, the problem is often one of IP/port, firewall, or Windows services rather than the printer itself. The checklist below assumes the PIXMA is on a local LAN (wireless or wired) and gives practical steps that still apply years later.
First, confirm the printer actually has an IP address and the PC can reach it. Look in the router’s DHCP/client list or print the printer’s network/configuration report from its menus. From the PC, open a command prompt and ping that IP. If there is no reply, check that the printer is on the same subnet as the PC and that the access point is not isolating wireless clients.
If the printer responds to ping, add it by IP rather than relying on discovery: create a Standard TCP/IP port on the PC and point it at the printer’s IP. When asked for protocol try RAW/port 9100 first; if that fails try LPR with the correct queue name. If the Canon software/installer isn’t listing a driver, use “Have Disk” with the correct MG3500-series INF, or install the manufacturer package and then set the port manually.
Other useful checks: restart the Print Spooler service (services.msc), temporarily disable firewall/antivirus to test, try a direct USB connection to rule out networking, swap the USB cable or port, and remove old/ghost printer entries before reinstalling. Note that Windows XP reached end-of-support in 2014 and driver availability can be limited — if network setup keeps failing, use a USB connection or a newer PC as a print server until a permanent OS upgrade is possible.

Yes, it is, the driver is suitable for XP 32 bit. You did load the driver?
Is the printer showing in your network? Time to load the help cd into your machine.

Not a lot to go on here...but click Start -> Devices and Printers -> Add a Printer. If it's a network printer maybe that's your issue.
