Is there any way to set the maximum bandwidth usage for windows update service in windows xp professional edition??

I found this, hope it's what you were looking for.

-Click Start, Select "Run"
-Type "GPedit.msc"
-Expand the "local computer policy" branch
-Expand the administrative templates" branch
-Expand the "network branch"
-Highlight the "QoS Packet Scheduler" in the left window
-In the right window, double-click the "limit reservable bandwidth" setting
-One the setting tab, check the "enabled" item
-Where its says "Bandwidth limit %," change it to read 0
-Close out of the window and reboot to make the new settings active.
