Apart from the missing logo, does it still boot?

It will be possible to repair the bootloader but you will need your XP cd

This computer is a dell which worries me.

Most Dells have a hidden recovery partition instead of an OS CD. If we simply reinstall the boot loader then it may blow your recovery partition away
