Hi, kindly assist me by explaining to me what makes a cisco 2950 series switch when switched on it pings the LAN for a few minutes and then says that destination host is unreachable.
The connection is on fibre optic cable using a dlink converter to convert.
I've shifted the switch to another position and it works fine but on returning it to its original place it starts experiencing the same problem.
What could be the problem?

you have to specify if it is a destination unreachable error or a host unreachable. destination unreachable means the gateway can not reach the specific network. the host or network unreachable means there is no route in the routing table for that specific host or network. run traceroute using the specific unreachable network address and examine how routing is working.
